I know Donovan was planning on working at the gym tonight, doing paperwork after closing, so I decided to come see him. With my dad utilizing my bar for one of his transactions, I had nowhere else to go.

I’m sure he notices my arrival on his security monitors when I enter. I make sure to lock the door behind me, then stop by the cooler behind the counter for a bottle of water. I pull out two, knowing Donovan will probably want one as well.

When I walk in, he looks up from his computer. “Thanks,” he tells me as I close the door behind me. “Why are you here?”

I hand him his water before dropping down in the chair across from his desk. I reach into my pocket and pull out my lighter, spinning it in between my fingers. It’s the equivalent of Linus’s security blanket for me.

“Bored. Missing my girl, and Dad’s using the bar tonight. So that leaves me with you, since I have no desire for my other pastimes, now that I have Alex.”

“Well, that’s good tae know. But we’ve not lost her, Dimitri. She’s just going back tae work,” he reminds me. Does he not see the danger in her job? How easily she could be hurt? Or killed?

“I know that. It’s just we’ve been able to see her whenever we want, sleep next to her, and now there are limitations. Why don’t we ask her to move in with us?”

He drops his pen, leaning back in his seat with his eyebrow raised.

“D, mate, do ye hear yerself?? Have you lost the plot? Who would she live with? Me? You?” Donovan picks up the bottle of water, unscrewing the top, his biceps flexing with the movement.

“I’m not an idiot. We could all get a place together. Make it ours.”

Our eyes lock on each other as he processes what I just proposed. Hell, I’ve been thinking of it since the night of the key party. I’ve known since the day she rescued me that I wanted her. Fate decided to help me find her by putting us both in the same place. Then went a step further, aiding me in pulling her key.

“Do you think she’d go for it?” he asks.

“Don’t know, but it doesn’t hurt to ask. Want to head to my apartment and work out a plan, along with checking out some places online. We could look at apartments and houses. My vote is for the latter. I want a yard.” I grin as he shuts down his laptop and stands, knowing I’ve won him over.

“Fine, let's do this. But you better have beer and food.”

“I have both. How’s frozen pizza?” I ask with a wink.

“My favorite.” While he turns out the lights and locks up his office, I head to the front of the gym.

My eyes catch sight of someone pacing in front of the door. They’re dressed in black, with a hood over their head, but from the broad shoulders, I take it to be a male. Fucker must be crazy if he thinks he can get the jump on Donovan and I and try to rob of us, or break into the gym. He obviously didn’t do his research that this business is protected by the Kuznetsov mafia family.

“We got company,” I speak loudly when Donovan steps into the gym, his keys jingling in his hands.

“And you’re feart? Are you shaking in yer boots that the big spooky man on the other side of the door’s gonnae hurt ye?” He laughs like he’s a fucking comedian.

“Not in the slightest.” I take hold of the lock, flip it and open the door, stepping out onto the sidewalk and coming face to face with our unknown guest.

“You’ve picked the wrong place to try and rob,” I announce boldly.

It’s then he lifts his head, showing me his face. “Oh, I’m not planning to rob anything, but I thought it was time we had a little talk about Alexis. My fiancé, in case you’ve forgotten,” Lionel spews, and I just want to punch him in his smug, fucking face.

“Oh, you’re the one living in cuckoo land. There is no you and Alex and if I’m correct, there's a restraining order in place and you’re violating it.” Donovan steps up beside me, chest puffed out, asserting his dominance over Lionel. If I was gay, I’d be all types of turned on by him.

But I’m firmly on team kitty!

He laughs as he pushes the hood of his jacket off his head. “You see, you are stupid. The order is for Alexis; it says nothing about the two of you. So, I’m here to tell you exactly what I think of you two and to let you know to stay away from my woman.”

“And if we don’t?” I ask bluntly, already tired of this fucker.

“Then you’ll regret it. I’ll make sure you never have her, especially after she learns about your secret.” He thinks he knows something, but there’s no way.

“I have no secrets. Not from Alex, anyway.”

He flips something around in his hand, but I can’t make it out. He’s got a smirk on his face as he glares at us.

“Come on, let’s go. I'm bored of this knobhead.” Donovan places his hand on my shoulder, giving it a squeeze as he moves past Lionel, heading toward his car.
