“Good, tiring, and confusing.” Those three words pretty much sum it all up. I stick my key in the hole and turn, but the door doesn’t open.

“Want to tell us about it?” Dimitri asks, as he takes the key from my hand and unlocks it for me. He opens the door, allowing me to enter first, and they follow behind.

“Yeah. I actually need to ask you something.”

“Well, that’s perfect because we have something to ask you as well.”

My eyes go wide, curious about what they are going to ask. I take my bag to my bedroom before returning and sitting at the table. They’ve already put plates down and set the containers of food out.

The smell is mouthwatering, and I can’t wait to take a bite out of one of the tacos. I was so busy at work earlier I wasn’t able to eat. As I’m staring at them, my stomach growls.

“Our lass is ravenous. Good thing we came with food,” Donovan jokes.

“So, let’s eat and while we do, we can ask our questions. We just have one before we do. Who’s going first?” Dimitri asks with a laugh.

“Umm, I guess you can go first,” I reply.

They look between me and each other before locking their gazes in mutual agreement.

“Well, what are you waiting for?” I take one of the tacos from the container and place it on my plate. I then get some chips and queso, covering one in the dip, and take a huge bite. A moan slips out and both of them shift their attention to me with hooded eyes.

“Okay, I’ll start,” Dimitri speaks up. “Donovan and I missed you like hell last night, baby. Instead of spending the night together as a trio, we did it as a duo. And let me just say you are the best part of the trio. I’d say you’re the cream in the Oreo, the cheese to a grilled cheese. Neither of those is good without what’s in the middle. So as we sat drinking, we came up with an idea.”

I take another bite, waiting to see where this weird ass conversation is going. “Okaaay,” I drag out around a mouth full of food.

“Well, like I told you before, I always thought my parents’ talk of love at first sight was a fairytale. That was until you. What Donovan and I came to realize is that we don’t want to leave you. We know it’s only been a couple of weeks, but we want you to move in with us and we’ve found what we think might be a perfect home. What do you think? Will you move in with us?”

And right before my eyes, Dimitri and Donovan go down on bent knees as if they were asking for my hand in marriage. I can’t help but laugh. I’m out of breath by the end and start coughing, choking on a piece of chip that went down the wrong way.

So graceful!

They both jump up, Donovan handing me something to drink while Dimitri pounds on my back. Lord help me if I was actually choking.

“Umm, is that an aye?” Donovan asks, causing me to laugh even more, but not before I clear my throat.

“Okay, totally not what I was expecting, and I’m not sure exactly what to say. I’m still in a lease here, so even if I wanted to, I couldn’t break it, not without penalty anyway.”

“That’s fine. We’ve thought of that as well. We can pay whatever the buyout is for your lease. But we figured you could hold on to your apartment at least for a month or two while we do a trial run of living together.” Dimitri moves back to his seat, and they both stare at me, waiting for an answer.

I can’t give it to them yet. Not without knowing if what Lionel said is true or not.

“I’ll answer, but first I need to know something. I have something to ask both of you. Well, more specifically you, Dimitri. While I was working today, we made a pit stop at the grocery store for lunch.”

“Alright, that doesnae seem bad.” Donovan raises his eyebrow.

“I ran into Lionel while I was there.” They both get pissed instantly. Their raised voices tune me out as they angrily list off things they want to do to him.

“Please stop, let me finish.” I try to stay calm because I need to get through this, but they both continue. “Stop!” I scream.

They both freeze as silence falls over the room. Their eyes dart to mine, surprised.

“Thank you. He didn’t hurt me. And I think it was a random encounter, so no, I didn’t call the cops. But he questioned how well I knew the two of you, especially you, Dimitri, and your family. I need to know, are they criminals? Are you?”

The room goes tense and they look at each other. Donovan nods and Dimitri turns to me.

“I was going to tell you. It was never something I wanted to keep from you, but I wanted to wait until our relationship progressed. You and I both deserved a chance for you to meet the real me. My family is part of a criminal family and there are times they use my club to conduct their business. But other than offering my club for them to use, I have no part in it. I never wanted to be a part of that world and I stay out of it. But I can’t control what my family does.” He holds his head high as he speaks, his eyes never leaving mine. I can see the truth in them.

“They use my gym from time to time as well. Again, I’m no part of it, but I do turn an eye when they need to use my building,” Donovan adds.
