Fuck.

Fuck.

FUCK!

It took me hours to get Emberly to stop asking questions about Capello. Hours of kissing and touching and making her moan my name until she was nothing but a puddle of bliss.

Now that she’s asleep, I can no longer hold back the guilt. It burns through my resolve, leaving only embers of regret. I should have told her the truth from the moment I saved her from Dominic.

That would have been the perfect time. She had been grateful that I saved her life. I was her hero. I could have explained that her half-brother wanted her dead to make sure she didn’t inherit the Capello fortune.

The morning sun streams through the windows, warming her skin with its golden light. I can’t even savor the tranquility of the moment or bask in her beauty, when my heart is sinking with dread.

Emberly and I might never have a chance if I tell her the truth about the extent of my lies. What if she leaves? I can’t bear the thought of losing her.

My gaze drops to her breasts, which I’m sure are bigger than they were when we first met. If she’s carrying my child, that might be the distraction I need while I figure out how to make things right.

Until then, I’ll keep my mouth shut. I’ll do whatever it takes to keep Emberly, even if it means never telling her the truth.

After kissing Emberly on the lips, I return to my office, where Nick Terranova hands me the keys to the safety deposit boxes. The man’s grin is wider than a crocodile’s because he’s helped us achieve the impossible.

“Miss Kay also inherited the mansion in Queen’s Gardens and its contents, all vehicles, personal effects, as well as Mrs. Capello’s jewelry.”

I sit back in the leather seat and nod.

“Would you like me to draw up some contracts to transfer those assets to you?” Nick asks, his eyes sparkling.

“No.” I wave him off. “Those belong to Emberly.”

Nick’s brows pull into a frown. “Not even the proceeds of Mr. Capello’s life insurance policy?”

My jaw tightens. “I only wanted what was rightfully ours. Capello was a rich man before he ripped us off. I don’t want his money.”

Our lawyer inclines his head. He’s tactful enough not to bring up my original plan to murder Emberly. “Understood. It was a pleasure doing business with you.”

“How are things going with getting your license back?” I ask.

He flashes me a smile. “The appeal was a success.”

“Makes a fucking difference when everyone blocking it is dead,” I reply, thinking about my own failed appeals over the years.

One of the reasons I like Nick Terranova is that our lives took similar paths. While Capello screwed us over, his lawyer, Joe Di Marco, stole Nick’s share of their law firm and got him disbarred. We’re both on similar paths of vengeance, except I doubt that Nick would be able to seduce Di Marco’s daughter for her inheritance.

“And the Di Marco Group?” I ask.

“Joe is dead. His wife left town. His daughter, Ginevra, is a nervous wreck. The woman Joe was screwing is trying to take advantage of the vacuum of power, and it looks like she’s put a hit on the daughter. I’ll sit back and let them kill each other before swooping in to collect what’s mine.”

I chuckle. It looks like Ginevra Di Marco is finally getting what she deserves. She was engaged to Benito years ago, before our family went to shit. Without explanation, she dumped my brother to hook up with Samson Capello.

We all overlooked that first sign of the Capello and Di Marco alliance. Much to our detriment.

“What’s the name of Di Marco’s mistress?” I ask.

Nick waggles his brows. “Martina Mancini. I heard she’s as hot as she is ruthless.”

I shake my head. “Sounds like she’ll destroy Ginevra.”
