“‘Kay,” Teagan nodded.

“Yes, sir,” Britt smirked.

Jaxon rolled his eyes. “Teags?”

“So Eric showed up at Barclay’s today when I was taking out the garbage…”

Chapter Thirty-Three

“Look, I don’t feel comfortable with this…” Brad began, motioning around the room as soon as Owen had gone.

“With what?” Teagan asked, shoving a stack of dirty dishes into his hands. He turned and positioned them behind him, which earned him a towel whip from Shea, who was the only one loading the dishwasher.

She was doing it, but Teagan was trying to unclench a bit and allow people to help her. Or at least let them think they were helping her, and then she’d fix it afterward.

“With you and Britt and Jaxon sleeping here.”

“Oh, I was going to let Britt and Teags have the bed and sleep out in the living room,” Jaxon offered.

“I wasn’t worried aboutthat,” Brad sighed and rolled his eyes in a very beleaguered way.

“Besides, love. I think you should be more worried about Teagan stealing me away than Jaxon,” Brittany teased.

Ignoring her, Brad continued. “No, I don’t feel safe letting the three of you stay here when Eric is clearly trying to be threatening. You should come to stay at mine and Dave’s. He has a gun.”

Dave turned off the water, where he was badly scrubbing a cooking pot by hand. “You think you might run this by ‘the gun’ before you volunteer him for bodyguard duty?”

“I don’t know. Are you saying you’re alright with them being unprotected with that psychopath out for blood?” Brad asked.

“He’s not out for blood,” Shea interjected. “He’s out for b100d.”

Brad pressed his lips together, clenching his fist in the air and releasing it, trying to think of something to say to his younger sister, but deciding against it.

“Jaxon’s there,” Dave said, gesturing towards Jaxon, who had draped his arm around Teagan’s shoulder.

“Thanks, Dave,” Jaxon said, a note of a smile in his tone even though Teagan couldn’t see it.

“Don’t mention it. You can always count on me to know where you are,” Dave deadpanned before going back to Brad. “Plus, he’s pretty well fixed things around here. They’d be safe.”

“Do you wantmeto come stay at yours, Brad?” Brittany asked, dragging her fingertips over his forearm before plucking it from where it was folded and wrapping it around her. In turn, she embraced him and leaned her head against his shoulder. “Would that make you feel better, Pookie?”

Shea made a gagging sound over the sink.

“No,” he said. “I mean yes, of course, it would, darling…” he leaned over to press a kiss to her lips, and Teagan had to smile at the display of affection. They were adorable together. She wondered if she and Jaxon looked anywhere near as adorable. Gazing over at him seemed to catch his attention, though, because now he was looking at her and she couldn’t remember what she was supposed to be worrying about.

Brad continued. “I’d lose sleep, though… about Teagan and Jaxon if they were here alone.”

Dave pursed his lips and nodded. “Yeah, okay. I could see that. I mean, I don’t have a problem with them coming over tonight. At least until Eric’s behind bars.”

“I mean, if you want to, that is?” Brad faltered. “Sorry, I should have asked, I guess… we’ve got that spare room and Jaxon’s mattress is still in there. It’s fine if you don’t want to since you’ve got a bed here and all, I just-”

Teagan glanced up at Jaxon, who was smirking a little, waiting for Brad to leave an opening so he could speak. He caught her eye, and she grinned, shrugging a bit, because why not?

“Of course we’d love to.”

“Okay, okay, okay…” Brad smiled and Britt ruffled his hair, mumbling something for only his ears, but it made him smile, so Teagan did, too.

Shea squawked. “What am I, a joke to you?”
