“We’ll need some scotch for this story,” I grumbled and got up from my seat.

“You should keep her around. She’s not intimidated by you or swayed by your looks. Have I mentioned how much I love her already?”

“We’ll talk about it over some alcohol,” I said gruffly and walked to the decanter set on a cabinet and poured us a few measures into crystal tumblers.

Jeremy laughed and talked about a proposal from one of his colleagues. That man never switched off. Work was his one true obsession.

I handed him a glass and sat on the couch near my desk, knowing he wouldn’t like what I was about to tell him. Still, I tried to explain how I’d met Laura Watkins. I took a sip of the drink, if only to push aside any mental image of her kneeling before me.

“Last night, I was horny, so I called Matthew for the regular girl. And before you say anything, I wasn’t here. Maja was with my mother at the Elm Street residence while I …”

Jeremy nodded. I shifted uncomfortably, knowing that this story sounded unbelievable even for me.

“Around half past seven, the girl showed up. Although she wasn’t what I asked for, I instantly liked her. So, I told her to go upstairs and get undressed, then wait for me. I was amped up. She was stunning, so I went to the room. She was still seated on the bed, fully dressed, uncertain. That should have clued me in, but I’m an idiot. I instructed her to remove her clothes. Despite that, she didn’t move an inch. So I stepped up to her and unzipped my pants, hoping she would take the hint and start sucking my cock.”

“I bet she loved this dominant Banks,” Jeremy muttered. He didn’t like my lifestyle, but he had learnt to accept it. He knew that after Samantha, I’d trust no other woman.

“Well, not really,” I continued. “She didn’t act like a regular girl. She was all shy and scared. I thought it was just an act and that it would turn me on until she said she was there to interview for the nanny’s job.”

He nearly choked on his glass of scotch. I took his glass and placed it on the coffee table.

“You’re kidding me!” he said, shocked and wide-eyed.

I took a generous sip of my drink, which burned my throat on its way down. If only it could also burn away my growing attraction towards Laura, but that would not happen anytime soon.

“No, I freaked out, zipped up my jeans, and asked her how she ended up in my house,” I said, then added, “Apparently, a guy on the phone told her to get in the limo sent to her residence for the job.”

“What the heck, Spencer? Are you telling me that your new nanny is an escort?”

“No, don’t be ridiculous. Of course she’s no escort, but her roommate works for Matthews. It must have been a mix-up, the call was meant for her roommate and Laura assumed it was an interview for the nanny’s position,” I explained, desperate to end this discussion.

“So, her roommate works for Matthews and she was supposed to be entertaining you last evening? Not your usual girl, but still …”

“Yeah. Laura confirmed that said roommate is an upscale whore. After this whole mess, I felt sorry for her when she told me she had been applying for nanny roles without success and told her to come back here in the morning. Then Maja disappeared—”

“Good thing I found her,” he muttered, but he looked a bit flustered.

I needed to take care. Jeremy had high blood pressure. He should avoid stress.

“I asked Laura to come outside so that I could speak with her privately, and when we came back into the room, Maja had gone into hiding. Then you brought her back, so the crisis was quickly averted.”

Chapter Six

Laura

“When do you expect to be back?” Veronica asked on the phone as I tidied up the kitchen.

Maja was in her room, doing her homework after I’d promised her that tomorrow I would arrange for her to have a movie marathon with her father—a reasonable bribe. But if Spencer said no, it could come back to bite me in the arse.

“No idea. It’s been hours since I saw Spencer. He’s a workaholic. How about you? Busy tonight?”

Veronica was an upscale sex worker. She wanted to quit and become a full-time content creator, but she didn’t have that many followers on TikTok yet. She knew she couldn’t earn that kind of money working in the corporate world.

“I don’t think so, but there's something going on in the club, some big changes are coming.” She sighed.

“Really, so what’s going on?” I asked. She piqued my curiosity; her life seemed so much more interesting than mine.

“I don’t know, but Rowan has been rather cryptic, but I'll figure it out. I just don’t like this tense atmosphere,” she mused. “Anyway, enough about me, tell me more about Spencer Banks? The hot PM.”
