I glanced at Maja, who was watching us as if she wasn’t sure the deal I’d just made with her would stand.

“You’d best get off your high horse, Prime Minister, and ask me nicely, or I might accidentally tell my roommate to take this job off my hands,” I suggested innocently.

Something dangerous uncurled inside me as I warned him not to test me. His eyes snapped back to me, turning darker. He then glanced at his daughter.

“What is sh—”

“Fine,” Spencer cut Jeremy off instantly. “Miss Watkins, would you please accept the position as Maja’s new nanny?”

“Of course, sir. Just to let you know, Maja and I are already best friends, aren’t we, sweetheart?” I asked.

“Yes, she can stay, and you still suck, Dad.”

Chapter Five

Spencer

After Laura left with Maja, I had a long and intense day. Jeremy wouldn’t stop drilling me about Laura Watkins and her roommate’s involvement with my hiring her.

The conversation with the American President was challenging enough to put me in a bad mood, though I couldn’t make much sense of what the man was rambling about half of the time. At the cabinet meeting, MPs posed numerous questions until lunchtime, and I had a splitting headache by then. The opposition party had hounded me because of my housing reform.

Amidst everything, Laura Watkins was still on my mind. She infuriated me so much that all I wanted to do was put her over my knee and spank her for talking back to me. When she’d arrived that night, she’d looked so innocent and shy, pretending she didn’t find me attractive, but I could tell she’d secretly wanted to take my cock into her mouth.

My stomach growled for food, but I couldn’t hide from Jeremy forever. Besides, on Thursdays, I went out for a pint with a few MPs, but this evening, the local pub felt unappealing, and I wasn’t in the mood for social gatherings. I needed to spend some time with Maja because I had been neglecting her lately.

I also needed to discuss Laura’s contract. She didn’t seem too impressed by my social standing or charming personality, which wasn’t surprising since I rarely made a good first impression. But she was undeniably attractive, although off-limits.

My pants tightened as visions of my hands on her arse flooded my brain. I no longer wanted simply to fuck or make love—rough sex was now my preference.

The sound of an email coming through jolted me away from my thoughts. I needed to pull myself together and forget about the nanny. The report had pictures of her with Jake Marlow, an international pop star who looked like a total wanker. What was Laura even doing with him?

They’d apparently met at a party and were together for two years before a scandal broke out after a video emerged showing him having sex with two women backstage and snorting cocaine. I remembered that incident.

Laura had a master’s degree in International Relations and had worked for Steven Roberts MP for about six months before she got a job as a marketing executive for another CEO in the city. After her split with Marlow, she’d retreated from political and corporate life and started working as a nanny. She also had a degree in Childhood Psychology, which made her more than qualified to take care of children. My blood pressure increased as I read on. Marlow had irrevocably damaged Laura’s reputation and career prospects. She had the skill set to become a politician.

I was right about her roots, because as I scanned the text further, the report told me that Laura had been born in Poland, but she was adopted when she was a toddler by a North London couple who couldn’t have children on their own, and they’d given her a standard middle-class upbringing. It was no surprise that she didn’t have an accent, because she had been brought up in the UK.

After her relationship with the pop star ended, she was hired as a nanny straight after. She had chosen the role as it provided safety after the drama with Jake Marlow—who was now in rehab.

It was safe to assume that Laura would make an ideal nanny for my daughter, although I wondered if she’d stay for long. Maja and I used to be very close before I’d taken on the role of Prime Minister, but things had changed since then. This job came with a set of unique challenges, and it often required me to prioritise other things over my time with Maja, which wasn’t ideal.

The email also contained another file: Veronica Micelli, the roommate. It appeared my guy had done his work well. This girl was wild. I scrolled to the bottom of the screen and gazed at the image of an attractive and petite red-haired woman. She was exquisite, with curly, fiery hair and a cheerful smile, but sadly, she wasn’t my type either. Veronica had begun as a stripper after she’d moved back to London. That was her last job before she’d accepted Matthew’s position and became an escort with Emperor. I had no idea how Laura ended up rooming with her, but I was certain last night couldn’t have been coincidental.

I shook my head as I scanned through Veronica’s list of clients. Many of them were people I knew personally; some were even married with children. The knowledge that they’d strayed didn’t particularly surprise me, nor did it make me angry, but cheating was wrong.

I closed the folder and leaned over in my chair, taking in the view outside my window. The fact that Laura lived with Veronica posed a hazard for me. Her housemate had slept with most of the politicians in my cabinet, and she’d likely know many of their secrets. To me, that was a huge risk. This was too close to home, so tonight, we would have to have another long conversation about moving into Number 10 Downing Street.

“Ah! There you are. I thought we were going to have dinner together.”

I cursed under my breath when Jeremy walked into my office.

“Let’s talk about this tomorrow instead, yeah? I've to get home. Maja and the nanny are waiting for me,” I said.

He gave me that knowing glance he sported when he knew I was avoiding him.

“You mean Maja and the attractive nanny are waiting for you. Now tell me what’s going on with her. How did you even meet her?” he asked, settling himself into a chair.

I ran my hands through my hair in frustration and released an exasperated sigh. No way could I hide this from him.
