We’d never see each other again anyway.

But … how would I pay the rent this month? I couldn’t rely on Veronica, always bailing me out. She had already done enough.

I exited the room and walked downstairs as fast as I could, then took the wrong turn, forgetting the second flight as I tried to find the door out of this house. I looked around nervously, itching to find my way out of this labyrinth.

Footsteps sounded behind me, and a heartbeat later, he spoke again in a sultry voice. “Miss Watkins, wait … I hope I won’t regret this.”

The lights came on, and I could finally see him clearly. This man was breathtaking, handsome, dark, and just totally knickers-melting hot, but the truth was that he acted like a total arsehole. Still, TV appearances didn’t do him justice.

You already said that. Yes, he is hot, just not for you.

“Yes?” I couldn’t even make eye contact with him without blushing. His presence intimidated me so much.

“Be at Number 10 in Downing Street tomorrow morning, and we will conduct the interview with my daughter. She’s a handful, and I really need a decent nanny,” he breathed.

I was stunned, processing what he meant, while my body still buzzed with arousal from our earlier interaction.

Oh right, he had a daughter—it was common knowledge I remembered, even though I didn’t keep up with the news.

“All right, yes, thank you, Mr Prime Minister,” I said uncertainly.

“You’ll need to call me Spencer from now on, especially when Maja is around.” Now that was an unusual request. “I can’t promise anything. Just come tomorrow and we’ll see how it goes.” Then he disappeared into another room.

Part of me wanted to follow him and tell him I’d do anything, and the other part was angry at his insinuation that I was a whore. I left the room and finally found my way out, stepping out into the night.

“Ma’am,” the security agent said, standing by the door.

I gave him a smile, then got into the car. We drove away, and I tried to calm my racing heart while questioning my actions.

I awoke before the sun, my eyes still heavy from lack of sleep. Besides, it was hot in my room. It seemed that the summer in London had already begun; the temperature was rising every day. I hurried to get ready, wanting to make a good impression on the little human I would eventually care for. I also needed to tell Veronica about last night since she was due home from her night shift.

I descended the stairs, the clanking of pots and pans chiming up to me. Veronica must have finished her shift earlier than planned. I yawned and stretched my arms above my head as I entered. While she stood there, tall and radiant, as always. Her long, tan legs seemed to go on forever, and her curly red hair was neatly styled atop her head. Even after working all night, she still looked gorgeous.

“You’re up early,” she said, slurping a mouthful of noodles up from a pot on the worktop, barefoot.

I made my way over to the kettle, taking a deep breath, and prepared to tell her what had happened the previous night.

“Did you finally decide to go on a date with Danny boy?” she teased.

I sighed, thinking about Spencer Banks’s beautiful and veiny cock once again. God, I needed to get laid.

“No, I don’t even know where to start, but you’re going to freak out once I tell you what happened to me last night,” I said. I explained about the weird call that had come in the day before. Despite my recent streak of bad luck, I told myself this could not possibly be a coincidence.

“I barely slept last night thinking about today,” I said. “What if that little girl doesn’t even like me? Maybe I’m doomed to stay jobless forever.”

Veronica stared at me with her jaw wide open and noodles falling from her fork. She swallowed and put the dish aside.

“Fuck … you can’t be serious, Laura!”

“Serious? Absolutely! It all happened exactly as I described it. I got the call, hopped into the limo, and then found myself in that house or whatever it was … and his cock was massive and the most beautiful thing I’d ever seen.” I leaned in close as if someone might overhear me, then added quietly, “It was a sight to behold.”

Chapter Three

Spencer

Today, all I could think about was Laura Watkins. I wanked off in the shower, imagining her on her knees in my bedroom. None of it made any sense. Yes, it was clearly a misunderstanding, but still, the shy and innocent girl had got under my skin.

As soon as I left the shower, I contemplated all the reasons why I shouldn’t hire her, but none of them were convincing enough. Later on, when I saw her résumé in the bedroom, I realised she was more than qualified to be a nanny. She had worked for the same family for over five years. There were no red flags while I vetted her.
