Growing hot and bothered, I went through his clothes to distract myself because, clearly, I had lost my freaking mind. First, I went through the wardrobe, then the dresser drawers containing an obscene number of boxer briefs. My thoughts raced, and my stomach knotted when I paused for a minute and listened for noises outside. Who knew what Spencer would do to me if he caught me in here, going through his things?

My fantasies were already going wild, because the idea of him spanking me wasn’t in the least unpleasant …

“Aha!” I said, pulling out my pair of sexy Victoria’s Secret knickers.

Now I needed to get out of there before he came upstairs, but at the same time, I couldn’t just take them because he would know that I’d gone through his things.

Hastily, I took the pair that I was wearing and replaced them with the other ones. Damn, this wasn’t very hygienic and downright disgusting, but Spencer would definitely sniff them, and the trade-off was worth it.

I was getting wet just thinking about it. I shoved the pair I’d come in with into the drawer and put the other ones on. “It’s game on, Prime Minister, and I know you won’t say anything, but you’re so going to enjoy this,” I muttered and put the handcuffs back where I’d found them.

I rushed back downstairs, just in time to see Spencer and Maja returning to the living room. Sarah and the boys were gone now. It was late, and Maja needed to go to bed soon. Spencer had on a white t-shirt and blue shorts, so informal, just like the average dad. Only he wasn’t average. My heart went a mile a minute. Lucian was handsome and charming, but I longed for the obnoxious Spencer who’d spanked me in the club corridor and made me come in minutes since my break up with Jake. Damn it.

“Sarah is great, isn’t she? And Maja obviously got on well with the boys,” I said, trying to make small talk.

He cleared his throat while Maja changed channels on the TV.

“Can we talk in the kitchen for a minute?” he asked.

I nodded because I couldn’t very well refuse, could I?

Shit, why was he being so polite?

In the kitchen, Spencer went to stand by the island and folded his arms, staring at me, but I couldn’t read anything from his guarded expression. Yet, all I could think of was how damn sexy he looked in his casual clothes. I definitely needed a fan.

“What do you want to talk about?”

“I know I’ve already asked you about your summer plans, and you said you were going to think about it,” he began.

I let out a breath, glad that he wasn’t planning to discuss our incident in the club.

“But I think it would be a good idea if you accompany us to Sicily. I rented a villa, and we will have a chef and a cleaner while we are there. There will be plenty of space for all of us. It’s got a private beach, and many celebrities have stayed there, it’s got added security. There you’ll get to meet the Italian side of my family, too. Maja would really love that.”

This all sounded amazing, and I had always wanted to visit Sicily, but there were a lot of other things I needed to consider.

“Your brother really doesn’t like me. How long are you going for?” I asked, catching him staring at my lips. Distracting me. How could I handle this tension and not screw up?

“We will be going for six weeks as we do almost every year. My father is half-Sicilian. Maja loves spending time with her cousins, and I think you will absolutely love the island once you see it. Rupert is coming along, but he's going to do his own thing, so you wouldn’t have to worry about him.”

Spencer walked up to me, closing the distance between us. I didn’t know what to think, but the look in his eyes gave me pause. Was it regret I saw there? Maybe he’d realised that actions had consequences. My skin prickled with awareness at his proximity. He was giving me whiplash. The man was cold, obnoxious, and rude on one hand, yet hot, thoughtful, and polite on the other. There was no in-between.

“I really want you there with us because I like it when you’re around. It feels like we are a real family.”

I suppressed a gasp at his admission because I didn’t know what to think. I loved Maja, we’d bonded, but hearing Spencer say these words felt good. Clearly, he thought I was doing a great job of helping him raise his daughter. What Spencer was truly saying was that he respected me, and that was crucial.

Yet, if I joined him on his annual holiday, first I needed to set some clear boundaries.

“All right, let’s just say I go with you and Maja to Sicily. What about us, Spencer? Are you going to cause a scene when a man starts talking to me? Are you going to act like a jealous, crazy arsehole like you did on Friday night?”

Veronica had been right. Spencer wanted me, but that didn’t mean he was going to move past his issues.

His eyes darkened, bringing out the storm in his blue irises. He was exhausting, and frankly, I didn’t think I could ever relax around him when he stared at me like he wanted to devour me.

“Is that what you want? To go on holiday with us so you could flirt with other men?” he growled.

Was he really that possessive of me, or was I just imagining things?

“It’s a hypothetical situation, Spencer, because I'm going with you as your nanny, not your girlfriend or fuck buddy,” I said, frustrated that he wasn’t focusing on what was important. I wasn’t planning to flirt with other men, but even if I was going to, I shouldn’t feel bad about it. There was nothing between us.
