“I apologise for interrupting.” Jeremy eyed Laura curiously. “But here’s Maja, and you must be the potential new nanny.”
“Nice to meet you.” Laura shook his hand.
As soon as Maja stepped in front of her, Laura’s face brightened with a radiant smile. Even the grumpiest person couldn’t resist it.
“No way, Dad! I don’t need a new nanny. I can take care of myself.” Maja scowled.
“Watch that attitude, young lady, and no, you cannot take care of yourself, and that’s why you need an adult who can make sure you’re not getting yourself into trouble. Besides, we have already talked about this. Addison can’t look after you all the time, and sometimes I've to be away abroad. Now, I’d like you to meet Laura.” I quickly stood and buttoned my suit.
My daughter rolled her eyes, but I followed Jeremy out, who kept staring back at Laura.
“Be back in five.”
“So this is who had you so flustered earlier on, Prime Minister? Interesting,” Jeremy said with a hint of amusement.
I wanted to wipe the smug smile off his face.
“I don't know what you’re talking about. She’s just a nanny, and I wasn’t flustered. Besides, I haven’t even vetted her yet. I don’t think she’s a good fit for Maja.”
“Why? Because she has already met you and decided that you’re too obnoxious to work with? Well, no surprise there, Sherlock.” He patted me on the back while I glowered at him. “You might be lucky if she lasts two days, but personally, I don’t see it. She seems a little fragile.”
“You may be right, but I don’t think Laura would take any nonsense from me or Maja. I need someone who can commit, because you know yourself how hectic my schedule is these days, so that’s why I’m giving her this chance,” I grumbled.
