“Coming!”

I went downstairs, knowing that he was a good guy and he wouldn’t do that to me. Spencer was dressed in a white polo t-shirt, setting up the massive table outside. He gave me a once-over and licked his lips, eyeing me hungrily, so soon I stopped thinking about it

“We need to talk to Maja. I can’t do this anymore,” he grumbled.

Rupert was pouring wine into a large glass jug, and Maja was laughing, watching something on her iPad. He had been going out a lot more lately, and sometimes he hadn’t come back to the villa at all. Spencer had mentioned that he’d met someone, but Rupert wouldn’t tell him who it was or whether it was anything serious.

“What are you talking about?” Rupert asked.

“Talk to her about Laura and I, because I've to keep reminding myself that I can’t touch her when we are all together, and I can’t fucking stand it.” Spencer grunted.

Thankfully, Maja had headphones on so she couldn’t hear.

Rupert had teased me relentlessly since he’d caught me leaving Spencer’s bedroom early one morning. We were careful, and I told Spencer that this wasn’t a good idea, but he had been in my bed almost every night since we’d started having sex.

“Let’s wait until we get back to London,” I whispered, placing the bowls of food on the table.

“Laura, I’m playing Roblox with Robbie. He’s in Mexico.” Maja showed me the screen of her iPad and took her headphones off.

“Oh wow, but since we’re having dinner now, can you please put your tablet away.” I sat next to her.

Spencer placed a huge bowl of pasta in front of us and joined us.

“What about Uncle Rupert?” Maja asked.

I glanced at Rupert, who was on his phone, smiling.

Spencer leaned over the table and snatched the phone out of his hands.

“What the hell? Give that back,” Rupert snapped.

“We are about to have dinner, and from now on, no electronic devices at the table,” he declared.

“Spencer is right. We should be having a conversation with each other during our meals. We are in Sicily, and the food is so fresh. You will enjoy it more if you are conscious of what you’re putting into your mouth.” I smiled.

“Don’t go all Mummy on me, Laura,” Rupert grumbled.

“She’s not, but she’s right, we are having a meal as a family.” Spencer gave his brother a stern look.

I was so glad that he’d backed me up.

Rupert cheered up a bit later on when we talked about our plans for the rest of the trip. Maja was excited about finally seeing her cousins. She kept saying she missed them, and I was curious about this side of Spencer’s family. He kept sending heated glances my way throughout dinner, and I felt so lucky. After Jake, I really didn’t think anyone else would find me attractive, but at the same time I reminded myself to guard my heart. Spencer Banks was a complicated man, and only a few weeks ago he’d claimed he wasn’t willing to commit to any relationship, so something must have changed recently. He must have overcome some of his issues since we’d come to Sicily and he was much more relaxed than when he was in London.

“The food is getting cold, and I still want to fuck you on the beach before Rupert disappears for God knows how long,” Spencer whispered in my ear, abruptly pulling me away from my intrusive thoughts.

“That will not be happening,” I said loudly.

“Whatever, woman, keep telling yourself that. You know I get what I want. Always,” he said while shoving a huge piece of steak into his mouth.

The rest of the evening passed with no incidents.

I carried the plates into the kitchen, wondering how Maja would react if Spencer finally revealed that we were together as a couple. I kept thinking about every possible scenario, because I didn’t like surprises and I cared about her more than I realised. She’d become really attached to me, and I didn’t want to screw anything up.

Spencer came up behind me and took the plates from my hands. He was trying hard to be careful with me when he was around Maja, and in a way I was glad about that, because our relationship or whatever was happening between us was still sort of unclear, since we hadn’t discussed the logistics. I didn’t want him to rush into any hasty decisions. Maja was his daughter, and we both needed to protect her.

“I’m so happy that you got that phone call that day and you showed up at my house.” He helped me to load the dishwasher.

I raised my left eyebrow. “Why?”
