He casually leaned against the doorframe, his untamed black hair falling into his eyes and brushing against his sharp cheekbones covered in a hint of stubble. Elias had the fleeting urge to stride forward and brush it away just to experience its silky texture.

The shame and embarrassment of this man witnessing the beginnings of a total breakdown forced his instinct to heel, though. He did his best to maintain eye contact with the towering man, despite feeling self-conscious about the flush on his full cheeks.

"Sorry about that, it was unprofessional," he grouched, sending August a pointed glare the older man pretended not to see. "What can I do for you?"

The visitor pushed off the door to stand up straight, and thick, scarred hands brushed back the edges of his dark suit coat so he could put them in his pockets. The movement made Elias' gaze drop to look at them, and he almost screeched at how fucking huge the guy's dick was. Fat and pressing into the fabric of his black slacks like it'd tear out of them at any moment, and Elias was pretty sure the alpha wasn't even hard.

Look away! Look away!

At anything else!

ANYTHING!

His eyes snapped back up in time to witness the birth of the alpha's cheeky grin, showcasing a single dimple on the right side of his face. It gave him an adorable aura, and an alpha that hot should never be able to effortlessly accomplish that. Elias barely acknowledged the omega raging deep within him, trapped by the blockers.

"My name is Levi Weston, and I have a collaboration proposal for you. Your receptionist—Donna, was her name—told me to wait here for you to return. You kept me on the edge of my seat for quite a while, Mr. Velcore."

Chapter Five

Like a wave, the words filled Elias with an unexplainable alertness. He shook out his sweaty hands and left August behind to walk past the alpha. Elias' freshly pressed navy suit unavoidably touched the man's chest as he slipped by, the sensation burning.

He kept on walking past the coffee table engraved with the Deaton Medical crest, which divided the two sides of the room.Either side had a brown leather couch. On the left was a wall of floor-to-ceiling bookshelves, holding everything from finance textbooks to research case files. Little knick knacks sat throughout, all different carved flowers in bloom. It was the one touch Elias had put in himself, satisfying his strange obsession with flora.

Maybe it was because of his scent, maybe not, but he didn't think about it much as he paused behind his desk, searching for a notebook and pen to jot down some notes. The surface was littered with papers under weighted jade stones gifted to him by a cheeky August a few years back.

"Are you fine to speak with me?" Levi asked out of the blue, forcing Elias to glance up from his cluttered desk drawer.

The alpha's gaze was probing. Elias was aware of the reasons but didn't bother to inform this stranger, of all individuals, about his personal failures. He stiffened, straightening.

"Yes. Please forget about all that."

Levi didn't even blink. "I don't think I can."

"Why not?"

"Because your scent is weak, but you seem upset, and I prefer to nurture omegas, not tear them down."

Levi purred the reply, most likely expecting a swooning, flattered response. Elias leveled the man with a glare instead, brows furrowed over gold-flecked emerald.

"As I said before, that conversation was highly inappropriate for the workplace."

"But you had it, and I heard it."

Frustration boiled from the back and forth of this day, from this man—everything frustrated him. "Well, unhear it."

"No can do. What was good until it wasn't? Sex?"

If he wasn't already blushing, he was now. Elias' fingers curled into a fist, half moon rings cutting into the meat of his palm.

What the fuck is happening?

Ignore him. Just move on.

Before he could, the alpha broke the silence again.

"Ah," Levi murmured. "So that's it. What a shame you weren't satisfied. Must've been a shit alpha."

"Why are we having this conversation? You're a stranger, and a potential business partner. It raises many questions about ethics."
