“If it’s so wrong, then why did you do it?”

“I didn’t.”

He would never do something like that. He’d done plenty of fucked-up things, but he’d never deliberately put innocent people in danger.

As they kept talking, he got more and more angry at Ronin. He was fucking done following his orders. He was just done.

“I’m gonna help you get outta here,” Ares said.

Nash’s head shot up. “Why?”

“Because you don’t deserve being pulled into this shit and I’m fucking tired of doing what Ronin tells me to. He’s lost his fucking mind.”

He slid off the table and nearly lost his balance when pain shot through his whole body. Fucking hell.

A hand on his elbow had him sucking in a sharp breath.

“Careful,” Nash said and sounded like he meant it.

Ares shoved his cut into Nash’s hands. Nash looked down at it with confusion.

“What am I supposed to do with this?”

“Put it on.”

No one would look twice at someone wearing a cut. Under no other circumstances would he have ever given someone his cut. Not ever. But he’d already decided he was done with Ronin and the Henchmen. The cut meant nothing to him anymore. It was just a means to get Nash the fuck out of there.

They made their way toward the exit and despite almost getting caught once, they made it out through the door.

He really shouldn’t have been surprised to find the Kings waiting for them.

Fuck.

CHAPTER ELEVEN

Jace

THE DOOR slamming had him jumping before he could stop himself. Fortunately, Ronin was too preoccupied to notice as he came storming into the room with a few of the others following closely behind.

Ronin was cursing under his breath, so Jace made himself as small as possible.

“They have Ares,” Ronin growled.

Jace’s head snapped up. “What?”

“The Kings,” Diesel said, giving Jace a weird look he couldn’t quite decipher.

The Kings had Ares?

What the hell did that even mean?

He watched in silence as the others started talking rescue plans and retaliations. When most of them started to head out, he realized that he hadn’t actually been listening to anything they’d said. The thought of Ares being held somewhere tore him up inside.

A hand on his shoulder had him flinching.

“He’ll be alright,” Skinner said.

Despite his name and appearance, there was something warm about Skinner. He’d always felt safer with him than many of the other Henchmen. Not that it truly said a lot. The only Henchman he actually felt safe with was Ares.
