“How are you so heavy, woman?” Ollie gasped out, his face red as he gave her another push.

“You better watch your?”

Cora cut herself off with a screech which was shortly followed by a thump as she finally got through the window and landed on the floor.

Ollie collapsed on the grass, gasping for breath, and Kody snorted, unable to help himself.

“I heard that, asshat,” Cora yelled.

“Door, Thompson,” Cap snapped at her.

The others headed for the front of the house while Kody grabbed Ollie’s hand and pulled him off the ground.

“Why is it always me?” Ollie whined, making Kody chuckle. “Cap knows she’s gonna kick my ass later for being anywhere near her ass, right?”

“Oh, he knows.”

Ollie grumbled under his breath but cut it out the second they neared the others.

They got there just in time to see Cora open the door with a toddler on her hip. Ollie ran past Cora as he followed the others inside while Kody stopped in front of her.

“Hi there, little man,” Kody said, then looked up at Cora. “You need any help with him?”

Cora shook her head. “He was asleep. He’s perfectly fine.”

She was a firefighter medic, so he wasn’t surprised that she’d already assessed him.

He left her to babysit and walked further into the house. It was an old house, the floor creaking with every step he took. The original crown molding and wooden floors were beautiful, though.

He found the others and the door they were standing around looked solid and from the groans and grunts he could hear, it wasn’t budging.

He stepped closer and tapped Finn on the shoulder.

“What’s her name?”

“Gina.”

He nodded and moved closer to the door. “Hey Gina? My name is Kody. We have your son and he’s completely fine. No need to worry. We’ll have you out soon.”

“Oh, thank God,” Gina said, her voice slightly muffled behind the door.

He kept talking to Gina as the others worked on the door and her big sigh of relief as they finally got it open had him smiling.

He offered Gina a hand as she stepped through the doorway. Her face was flushed, and her shoulder-length brown hair was in disarray. Most likely from her grabbing at it in frustration and panic.

Before he could get a word out, Cora appeared and handed over the kid who seemed happy to see his mom. Gina hugged him close, eyes squeezed shut as she talked softly to him.

Gina looked up at Kody, her cheeks turning red.

“I’m sorry. This is so embarrassing.”

Kody smiled at her and said, “Don’t you dare be embarrassed. This is what we do.”

“I bet you didn’t sign up to save idiots from their own bathrooms,” she said with a self-deprecating laugh that made the kid wiggle until she put him down.

He shrugged, saying, “Well, I didn’t think I’d be doing it so often.”

“You’ve done a lot of bathroom saves?”
