Titanium blasted through the bar’s speakers, making poor Jace jump.

The miserable look on Steel’s face was well-worth the trouble he was going to be in. He and Kaz were laughing their asses off until Kai turned off the music.

“Hey,” Ace exclaimed but one look from Kai and he was slumping down in his seat.

When Kaz laughed at him, he flipped him off. That little traitor.

Sirens made him perk up. He was the only one, too. The others all seemed to hunch in on themselves, Kai reaching for his gun. Steel caught his hand to stop him.

He looked out the window and when a firetruck drove past the bar, he felt goddamn butterflies in his stomach. It was Kody’s truck and, yes, he knew because once you crash into one, you tend to remember what it looks like.

“What the hell is that about?” Kai asked.

Ace turned around to find everyone staring at him.

“I don’t like that smile,” Steel said to Kai.

“What?” Ace pointed at his face. “This smile? Better get used to it.”

“Aww. He’s in love,” Jace said, smiling softly at Ace.

Kaz mock-gagged. “No more love, please. I’m suffocating on it.”

Jace’s laughter was hearty and when he pulled Kaz into his arms and kissed the top of his head, Ace was bent over laughing at the kid’s futile struggle to get free.

“Who the hell have you knocked over the head and dragged home?” Steel asked Ace.

He flipped him off. He hadn’t knocked Kody over the head. In fact, he was the one who’d gotten a knock on the head. Wait. Did that make it better or worse?

“It’s the firefighter,” Jace said, making Ace’s mouth drop open.

“I’m sorry, the what now?” Kai asked.

“The scary lady who yelled at him?” Kaz asked, eyes wide.

Ace crossed his arms and glowered at all of them. He wasn’t answering any damn questions.

“No, the one who caught him. Kody, right?” Jace asked, brow cocked at Ace.

He spluttered something unintelligible. How the hell did Jace know that?

“How do you?”

Several loud booms had Ace’s heart freezing in his chest.

Those were gunshots.

What the hell?

He looked at the others and they all reacted at the same time, taking off toward the door. The second he was outside, there were more gunshots and, this time, he knew exactly from which direction they came, and it sent his pulse skyrocketing.

He grabbed his helmet and jerked it over his head. He had only one thought as he got on his bike and tore out of there.

Kody had to be alright.

Kody

They pulled up next to their two-vehicle collision along with two ambulances and a police cruiser. They all got out of the truck and Cap took a second to assess the scene. One car was turned on the side while the other had hit a lamp post. It had made a small dent in the front of the car. Cap directed most of them to the overturned car while Kody, Ollie, and Dennis headed for the other car.
