Kody nodded, tears still streaming down his face.

Ace pulled him back against him and held on, letting Kody cry until he had no tears left. Then Ace brought him inside and sat him down on the couch while he went into the kitchen to grab him something to drink.

He dried his face off in the sleeve of his shirt. Most of his tears had soaked Ace’s clothes. Not that Ace seemed to mind. Ace was too fucking good to him.

His phone buzzed in his front pocket, and he was wrestling it out when Ace returned. He looked up at Ace when a glass appeared in front of his face. He smiled at Ace before taking the glass. He took a sip of the water, then put the glass down on the coffee table to read the text he’d gotten.

“My parents want to see me,” he said with a sigh and looked up at Ace. “And you.”

Ace’s brows rose and he could only shake his head at the man.

“They know about the shootout and Dennis getting shot, but that’s it,” he said.

“You wanna keep it that way?”

Ace sat down next to him, and Kody reached for his hand.

“No. Not really. But I don’t think telling them you killed a guy to save me is really gonna go over too well with them.”

“Yeah, no kidding.” Ace huffed. “Probably best not to say anything until we know what I’ll be charged with.”

A surge of indignation went through him.

“You saved us all. They should be giving you a medal, not contemplating throwing you in prison for the rest of your life,” he said.

Fingers brushing across his face had him releasing a sigh.

“It’s okay,” Ace said.

Kody scowled at him. “It’s really not.”

“But it will be.”

“You don’t know that,” he whispered, barely able to get the words out.

“I know that no matter what happens, I will do everything I can to make it be okay,” Ace said.

Kody shook his head and grabbed for Ace, resting his forehead against Ace’s.

“I would break out of prison for you,” Ace mumbled.

Kody pulled back, a half-sob half-laugh escaping him.

“You would, wouldn’t you?”

Ace’s cheeky smile had him chuckling and shoving the man away. Ace laughed and put his hands on Kody’s cheeks, leaning in to press a soft kiss to his lips.

“I would do anything for you, Kody.”

He believed it. Hell, Ace had already proved it.

CHAPTER FIFTEEN

Ace

KODY TOOK his hand as they walked up to his parents’ front door and a surge of warmth went through his body. He didn’t know what to expect but considering how well it had gone the last time they’d been there, he figured it would be alright. Then again, Kody hadn’t been keeping a secret from them then either, but he felt like telling them was up to Kody. He didn’t really care either way.

The door was pulled open before they reached it, and Kody’s mom was out and hugging her son the next second. She kissed both his cheeks, making Kody grumble a protest. He didn’t stop her, though.
