Addy then turned her attention to Ace.

“Oh, Ace. It’s so good to see you,” she said and wrapped him up in a hug.

“It’s good to see you, too.”

They followed her inside and when he stepped into the living room, he came to a sharp halt when he saw all the people there.

“Ah, crap,” Kody muttered.

There were three women and two men he didn’t know and while it was pretty clear who the women were, apart from already knowing Kody had three sisters, they also all looked exactly like their mother, he didn’t know who the men were. Though he suspected one was a husband and feared that the other was Ruben. The last thing he wanted was that asshole around Kody.

One of the women, the tallest, ran into Kody’s arms.

“Oh my god. I’m so glad you’re okay,” she exclaimed.

Kody patted the top of her head and said, “I’m fine, Olivia.”

One of his sisters stayed put, her arms crossed and a pinched look on her face, but the other one who had a little girl on her hip walked up and hit Kody in the shoulder.

“You asshole,” she snapped at him. “Why the fuck didn’t you call me?”

“Asshole,” the little girl repeated so clearly Ace couldn’t keep his snort in.

The sister turned to Ace with a suspicious glare.

“Who the fuck are you?”

Kody’s groan had him grinning.

“Ace,” he said. “The one who drove his bike into Kody’s truck.”

Kody’s dad huffed out a laugh that earned him a threat with a spatula from his wife.

“Wait. He’s real?” the sister he assumed was Amanda asked, her arms falling to her sides as she gave Ace a weird look.

“Last I checked,” Ace said.

Amanda turned to share a look with one of the men.

“Right,” Kody said, making Ace turn his attention back to him. Kody motioned toward the women standing next to him. “These two are my sisters. The nice one is Olivia, and the not-so-nice one is Katelynn, and the munchkin is my niece, Miley.”

“And the bitch over there is Amanda,” Olivia said with a glare toward Amanda.

“The fuck did you just call me?” Amanda snapped, taking a threatening step forward.

Olivia put her hands on her hips and said, “Bitch.”

Amanda looked ready to get into a fist fight and Ace didn’t doubt Olivia would welcome it. Addy stepped between them, her face getting redder by the second.

“Enough,” she snapped. “Your brother almost died.”

Olivia and Amanda both dropped their gazes to the floor. While their mother chided them, someone else walked up to Ace and Kody. A man with short dark hair and what looked like a permanent sneer on his face. Ace instantly wanted to slam his fist into it.

“I’m Ruben,” he said and gave Ace an obnoxious once-over. “I was Kody’s first boyfriend.”

Ace arched a confused brow at him. “Congrats?”

Ruben’s smug expression fell when Kody pressed his face into Ace’s shoulder to smother his laughter.
