“We know, baby. We need you more than you could know,” Nick told me. I was tearful as I moved over to the coffee maker to busy myself. They were just too perfect. I didn’t know what I had ever done to deserve them in my life.

We worked silently together, me preparing coffee, Kailan setting the table and Nick cooking. It was nice. Normal and kind of domestic. I’d love every morning to start just like that.

Eventually Aleks and Harris wondered in. Harris was dressed to hit the gym after breakfast and Aleks had literally rolled out of bed and put on his glasses.

“How’s that arm feeling?” Harris asked as we all sat and started filling our plates with the delicious smelling breakfast.

“It’s fine, “ I assured him before shoveling eggs into my mouth. I was so hungry; my light mood obviously having affected my appetite. “What’s everyone doing today?” I asked, wanting to change the topic. I didn’t want Kailan to dwell on the night before any more.

“I have to go into the office. I have a case to wrap up, then I’m taking a few days off,” Nick explained. “Kayla called,” he sighed as he looked to the guys, like that explained everything.

“She got another boy toy?” Kailan asked.

“Yeah. Apparently this one’s rich. He’s taking her to Vegas,” Nick replied with a roll of his eyes.

“Rich is good. Maybe he’ll keep her ass in fake fur and tacky jewelry for a while,” Harris laughed.

“I don’t really care. She was already at the airport when she called me at seven this morning. I need to collect Zack from daycare at midday.”

“How long will she be gone?” I asked, shocked a mother could just ditch her child that way.

“No idea. A while if this guy really is rich. She’ll have fun bleeding him dry.”

“The longer the better. I love having the little guy with us. At least we know he’s well looked after,” Aleks said, and I agreed whole heartedly. I had no idea how Nick thought Zack was better off with Kayla. From what I had seen Nick was the most amazing father.

“I agree. He’s better off here with us,” Kailan spoke up.

“You okay to pick him up?” Aleks asked, looking to Nick. “I can get him if you need to work?”

“You sure? That would help. I have a case to wrap up and three to hand off before I take leave,” Nick explained.

“Sure. No problem.”

“I can help too. I was just planning to look at more files for Soloman. A break would be good,” I offered.

“Thanks baby.” Nick placed his hand over mine and gave it a squeeze. I turned my hand under his and interlocked our fingers.

“Just make sure you stay close to Aleks, won’t you?” Harris asked as he looked to me with worry.

“I will. I’m not stupid. I’m not taking any risks right now,” I agreed easily.

Harris nodded, then looked to Kailan. “You good for this meeting?” he asked.

“Yeah. As long as we have time to hit the gym first?”

“Yeah,” Harris nodded, “We should be done and back home by midafternoon to help with the little monster,” Harris added as he looked to Aleks.

“No rush. We’ll be fine,” Aleks assured him as he looked to me with that sexy smile.

I couldn’t help the little glances at each of them as we all chatted and ate breakfast. It all just felt so easy and comfortable. For a while I was able to put aside my fears and worries and just enjoy being with them. They gave me that peace. It was all them.

After breakfast Harris and Kailan hit the gym while the rest of us cleared up and loaded the dishwasher. Aleks ran off to get showered and dressed then. I walked Nick to the door and waited while he took his gun belt from the gun safe in the closet, then shrugged it on, with his leather jacket over the top to conceal the weapon.

“You sure you’ll be okay?” he asked as he turned to me.

“I’m sure,” I agreed. “I can’t wait to pick Zack up.”

“He’ll be excited to see you. He took quite a liking to you,” he smiled widely.
