I glanced at Noah, Dylan, and Grace, who all sat there with smiles, and then I turned back to Zach.

“Yes!” I cried.

Zach and I both got up and hugged, then he placed a kiss on my lips before placing the ring on my finger.

We dropped the three kids off with Zach’s mom and headed back to my place. We’d talked throughout dinner about the wedding. Noah, Dylan, and Grace all shared what they’d like to see. We both laughed when the boys suggested a fishing wedding, while Grace rolled her eyes.

We’d locked the house and made our way upstairs. I slipped my shoes off, while Zach took off his shirt and tie, coming over to where I stood, looking at the ring once again.

“You sure you like it?” Zach asked, kissing my neck.

“It’s so beautiful,” I said, still admiring the ring.

“I hope it wasn’t too much, having the kids there,” he whispered in my ear.

“No, not at all. Honestly, it was perfect.”

“I’m glad. I’ll admit, I was worried they wouldn’t be able to keep the secret.”

I laughed, thinking back to the looks on their faces before I’d noticed the box. “Yeah, they sometimes have a way of giving things away. Especially Noah with that grin of his.”

I felt Zach’s fingers gently tug at the zipper of my dress, dragging it down, exposing my back. Then I felt his fingers dance along my shoulders, slipping the dress off me.

I was still looking at the ring when he slipped the dress off my arms, and it hit the floor.

“Are you ever going to stop looking at it?” he questioned, placing a kiss on my shoulder, the heat from his body warming me.

I shrugged. “I enjoy looking at it. It’s just so beautiful,” I muttered.

“So are you,” he whispered, his lips still pressed against my shoulder, now moving to my neck as he wrapped his arms around me.

The comfort of his arms provided a safe space for me and the boys, and I provided him and Grace the same. For two people who had endured such losses, we were both able to pick up the pieces and find love again. A love that differed from our firsts. We both knew it was because together we’d healed the scars on our hearts.
