He smiled. “I didn’t plan this, you know. This is what we in the industry call ad-libbing.”

“You can ad-lip me anytime you want.”

I felt Rhett’s laugh reverberate through his chest before it settled on my lips in an explosion of fire. He pressed his hand into my back, pulling me closer, while his thumb still gingerly ran along my jaw, tilting my head and pouring lava directly into my veins.

I slid my hands up his chest and over his shoulders, clasping them behind his neck. Tilting my head, I deepened the kiss and fully recognized that this was the single most romantic moment of my life.Sleepless in Seattlehad nothing on Rhett Myers.

He pressed me backward until I hit the cement ledge, and I leaned against it, fully secure in his arms, though I felt a little like I was flying. A breeze ruffled my hair, and I savored every feeling.

Rhett leaned back, chest heaving, his eyes closed.

I slid my hand to the sides of his head and reached up on tiptoe to kiss him tenderly. This was the moment I had been fantasizing about my entire life, and it was a thousand times better than I ever expected. Rhett kissed even better than I could have dreamed.

We broke apart, and I looked around for Jax.

“He’s probably being discreet,” Rhett said, somehow reading my mind.

“Phew.” I chuckled.

He laced his fingers in mine. “When I planned to bring you up here, I was expecting the beauty, but not the fireworks.”

“Ooo,” I said, laughing. “Maybe you should save the lines for your writers.”

“That wasn’t smooth?”

I couldn’t dampen my grin. “Eh, it was fine.”

“Fine? I can do better than fine.” He pressed a kiss to my lips, then leaned back again and made his voice sultry. “You are the light in my window.”

“You can’t use lines from your movies. That’s cheating, and it has no context for the current situation.”

He looked into my eyes, his own serious. “How about: I like you, Beth.”

“Oh, I like that one.”

“Yeah? I like you, Beth, and I want to kiss you again. What do you say to that?”

“I say, be my guest.”

Chapter Sixteen

I spun the little EmpireState Building figurine on the desk in my hotel room, unable to dampen my smile. It had been an entire day since Rhett surprised me with the exclusive trip up to the 102nd floor, and still my body was buzzing. Clearly the nerves did not experience a kiss like that and forget it easily.

Adalyn flopped on her bed, wrapped in a bathrobe with her hair up in a towel. She picked up the remote. “Feel like watching anything in particular?”

My phone buzzed, and my body hummed in anticipation when I saw the name light up on the front.

Rhett:Want to play Uno?

Me:Yes, how did you know? It’s my favorite game.

Rhett:Shouldn’t your favorite game be something you excel at?

Rhett:Kidding. Please don’t let that change your mind.

Me:You just unleashed the competitive beast within me. You will regret that.
