Adalyn shook her head on the seat beside me. “Poor Rhett. That was ridiculous.”

“At least he had you, Chad.” I grinned, but Chad did not look amused. Over the course of the date, he’d had to pull Miss Miami off Rhett no fewer than a half-dozen times. She was like a barnacle and Rhett a pirate ship.

My phone buzzed.

Rhett:Meet me in front of the hotel in thirty minutes?

Me:It’s almost midnight. Don’t you have a curfew?

Rhett:My free time starts at midnight.

Me:Adults shouldn’t have to schedule free time.

Rhett:This one does. And he wants to spend it with you.

My stomach flapped with tiny butterfly wings.

Me:Okay, deal. You’re so persuasive.

Rhett:I really only said one thing...

Me:I guess I’m easily persuaded, then.

Adalyn laughed, pulling my attention from my phone. “Rhett looked old enough to be her dad.”

I agreed with that. Miss Miami hadn’t only looked young; she’d acted young too. “What was she? Fifteen?”

“Eighteen,” Chad corrected me.

“Maybe Bridget should implement an age limit.”

Adalyn shrugged. “It’s in the fine print. Rhett didn’t want any legal mishaps, so he made sure all dates were with women eighteen or over.”

I scoffed. “There’s no way that girl is eighteen. She probably has a great fake ID.”

“I don’t know, everyone gets highly vetted before their dates,” Adalyn said. “I think she just looked really young.”

That tracked. I imagined everyone who came in contact with Rhett got highly vetted, especially based on the way he had personally questioned my best friend’s husband about me before the tour. Thank heavens Liam could give a personal, unbiased account of who I was. Well, mostly unbiased.

Thank the stars Liam hadn’t given away my slight obsession with Rhett. It proved how much he trusted me.

Or if hehadwarned Rhett, the man clearly hadn’t taken it seriously. It wasn’t lost on me that every time I mentioned how much and how long I had liked Rhett, he kind of brushed it off. A man didn’t live in the limelight for so long without growing a slightly leathery skin against superfans, I guess.

We pulled up to the hotel, and I followed Adalyn upstairs. We finally had separate bedrooms for once, and she gave me a little wave at the door. “I’ll see you way too early in the morning,” she said.

“Amen. It’s too bad we aren’t staying in Miami a little longer.” I scrunched my nose. “We didn’t get to see much of it.”

“Rhett wants to have extra time in Texas, so we’re blowing through Atlanta too.”

“That explains those extra days in Fort Worth.”

“But it doesn’t explain why they couldn’t have picked a beach town for our downtime.” She pulled a face.

“Well, blame Jimmy Fallon for messing up his schedule and keeping us in New York a day longer for no reason.”

Not that I was complaining about how the day turned out. When Jimmy Fallon rescheduled Rhett’s appearance on the show, Rhett had invited me to his room for the day for room service, Uno, and moreFriendsreruns. I learned that he was a highly talented card shuffler but couldn’t beatbox to save his life.

He learned that I cheat at Unoand still lose.
