“Feisty… now I like that.”

I smiled.

We stayed there shooting the shit and drinking for the next hour when all of a sudden, Ava’s husband called and said her eldest had a fever.

“Ugh, I’m so sorry,” she exclaimed, bringing my attention over to her.

“I know this was supposed to be our girls’ night out. I’m sorry we have to cut it short.”

“It’s okay. I’ll call you tomorrow.”

She stood, swinging her purse over her shoulder before looking back and forth between Felix and me.

I read her thoughts. “Yeah, I might as well stay. I mean, I’m already out. I’ll just take an Uber home.”

“Are you sure?”

I nodded.

“Okay… just text me when you get home and…” She whispered in my ear, “If you go home with this guy, please send me his license plate number.”

I chuckled. “Will do.”

She took one last look at me, kissed my cheek, and left.

“Great,” Felix announced once she was gone. “Mom’s gone.”

“She’s just protective. For all I know, you could be a serial killer or something.”

“Or something… another shot?”

“I’m fine.”

“That you are,” he coaxed, looking me up and down. “Tell me, Capri, do you give it as good as your mouth does?”

“On second thought, I’ll take that shot.”

One turned into two, and two turned into me getting drunk as shit. At first, I contemplated maybe going home with him, but the more I drank, the less I wanted to.

The next thing I knew, I was being pushed up against what felt like a brick wall.

“Heeeeeyyyyyy…” I slurred, trying to stay on my own two feet.

I could barely see an inch in front of me, and the sudden dizziness was taking its toll on how long I could stand.

“I… thought… I thought… we were dancccing.”

“We are. We’re on the rooftop.”

“Oh… I don’t feeeeeellll so gooood…”

Everything was swaying, especially my head.

It all happened so fast. One second, I was trying to remain upright, and the next, I heard arguing, but it came out as gibberish to me in my drunk stupor.

As if on cue, I blinked, and I was being strapped into what felt like the leather seat of a car.

I opened my mouth to speak, but instead, someone said, “Drink this.”
