“I can’t wait,” I lied, dreading every second of what was to come.

It wasn’t until I saw the terms and conditions in black ink that I grabbed a blue pen and highlighter and got right down to business on what I’d agree to and fight him on.

ELIAS

I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t shocked that she barged her way into my office early the next morning. Except this time she was wearing a much more revealing red dress that emphasized her luscious breasts and plump ass.

“Did you get dressed up for me?” I asked, grinning as she sat in the chair in front of my desk.

She didn’t miss one beat, stating, “First rule of our new contract, Mr. Sinclair, is you’re not allowed to come onto me any more than you already have.”

“Sweetheart.” I arched an eyebrow. “We both know if I was coming on to you, you’d be spending the day in my bed.”

“You can’t talk to me like that,” she bit. “Not only is it sexual harassment but it’s also highly inappropriate for a client of your stature to flirt with his publicist.”

“I can talk to you any way I damn well please, beauty.”

Just to prove my point, I raked her body over. Starting from her hard nipples to her petite waist and long legs. When she realized where my stare had drifted, she gazed down and instantly readjusted her dress.

“You know most men wouldn’t openly gawk.”

“I’m far from most men.”

“It’s cold in here, Mr. Sinclair. Is there a reason for that? Do you have to keep the temperature freezing to keep that cold heart intact?”

I ignored her dig and reached for the intercom button on the house phone instead, ordering, “Turn the air up now.”

I lifted my finger off the intercom, and she baited, “You know a please and thank you would go far with your employees, Mr. Sinclair, but I guess you don’t have to ask for anything.”

“I didn’t become the man I am by asking for things, Miss Locke.”

“Nice to see you’re finally addressing me correctly. Keep that up.”

“Is there anything else you’d like me to keep up for you?”

She understood my double entendre and scoffed out a disgruntled groan.

I changed the subject. “Are you here to bark orders at me?”

“I guess it depends on if you agree to our new contract. I’m only here to talk business with you, Mr. Sinclair.” She opened the folder and pulled out what appeared to be said contract. “If you agree to this.” She gestured to the folder. “I’ll be your publicist for the opening of your business for the next month, but it’s going to be on my terms.”

“Your terms?” I stressed, nodding to her document. “You’re under the impression that you’re in control, but you’re sadly mistaken, Miss Locke.”

“Actually,” she argued, nodding back at me before sliding the contract across my desk. “These are my terms and conditions. Take it or leave it. As you reminded me yesterday, you're a businessman, so these are my negotiations to work with you, not for you, sir.”

“Now that…” I winked. “I could get used to you calling me.”

She blew off my remark. “I highlighted what I agree to, crossed out what I don’t, and added my own terms in blue ink to the clauses I had an issue with. If you don’t like it, I’ll walk right out of this office and never look back. And let’s get this straight immediately, the only reason I’m agreeing to this is because my mother has worked her ass off to be number one, and if I have to put up with you for the next month to get her there, then so be it. Besides, you’re right. I was the best, and I have every intention to claim that title again. Being your publicist will work in my favor, but I’ll get there with or without you, so I don’t need you one bit.”

I listened intently to what she was saying, and I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t damn proud of her for finally taking the initiative to reclaim her throne in the world of marketing. With that said, I hated that I was going against everything that made me the man I was and opened her fucking contract to see her terms.

When, in reality, I wanted to throw it in the trash where it belonged.
