Every time I started to second-guess myself on what the hell I was going to be putting myself through by taking him on last night, the painful memories of us would interfere and tear into me again. The roller coaster of emotions was like nothing I ever experienced in years, not even with Kyle. Which sent a whole other set of bullshit my way. Now I was contemplating the love I had for him to begin with.

I went from only thinking about Kyle’s cheating ways to the devil in a suit sitting in front of me after almost eight years.

My world was topsy-turvy, and at that point, I was trying to take control of one aspect of my life that I could wholeheartedly succeed in.

My career.

Working with Elias Sinclair would only amplify my return into this industry in a way nobody else could. I’d never tell him that, but I didn’t have to. He knew it too.

After years of trying to get over him, I finally did, and there he was…

Bulldozing his way back into my life.

But why?

There had to be more to his intention than he was laying on me. I hated that I let him get to me. This man knew how to push every one of my buttons, and I was determined not to let him win.

Not for one second.

I wanted him to really listen to what I was expressing, and when he opened the contract, I realized I was getting through to him. This was a two-way street.

End of story.

I gave it another moment before adding, “In order for our working relationship to work, Mr. Sinclair, you’re going to have to meet me halfway. Everything I’ll plan for you in the next month before your launch is solely for the benefit of your company, but this has to be a team effort if we’re going to work successfully together.”

We sat there at a standstill, almost as if we were on opposite sides of a war, and I guess, in a way, we were.

I was the first to break the silence. “This isn’t about us, and I won’t spend the next month beating what feels like a dead horse with you. If you want this to work, then you’ll have to agree to my terms.”

For the first time since we saw one another again, I felt as if I was finally getting through to him. Making my emotions run wild with feelings I thought were gone when it came to him.

I shoved them aside, refusing to go down that road again.

ELIAS

The times when my mind contemplated the past between us were some of the best and worst times in the past eight years of my life. Instead of focusing on the past I couldn’t change, I read through the bullshit I already knew this new contract entailed.

Publicist, Capri Locke, agrees to be on call at all hours of the day and night for Oasis Corporation. For Oasis Corporation ONLY.

Publicist, Capri Locke, will attend every interview and all press junkets for Oasis Corporation. It’s your money.

My eyes shifted toward the next clause.

Publicist, Capri Locke, will travel to all events around the world with Oasis Corporation. We are not sharing a hotel suite.

I grinned, glancing up. “Don’t trust yourself to sleep in the same room as me?”

“No.” I adamantly shook my head. “I just don’t trust you.”

In one breath, I informed, “When I travel with my staff, we share the presidential suites. It’s easier to maneuver my busy schedule that way.”

I adamantly shook my head again. “Not going to happen.”

“Miss Locke, you’ll be in a separate bedroom.”

“You have all the money in the world to rent another suite for me, Mr. Sinclair, and I’m going to insist you reconsider my demands or else you can say goodbye to our working relationship.”

“I don’t ever remember you being this bossy.”
