And I couldn’t agree more.

CHAPTER TWENTY-SIX

CAPRI

“The water shines only by the sun. And it is you who are my sun.” —Charles de Leusse

3RD WEEK OF PRESS TOUR

I sat at the head of the rectangle table in the middle of the room with Elias sitting beside me at his morning meeting for Oasis Corporation in Texas on my birthday. We were back for the weekend, and so many memories had assaulted my mind since we landed in his private jet that morning.

Elias had a few meetings scheduled, and we were only in town for the weekend, but I couldn’t stop the memories from tumbling into my head, and we only just got there. I pretended I was unfazed, but inside, I screamed loud and clear.

For the past week, we acted…

I don’t even know.

We were definitely sleeping together, and by that, I mean sex and actual sleeping. I’d fall asleep in his arms every night, and to my surprise, I woke up in them in the morning. His strict routine didn’t seem to hound him as much as it did the weeks prior. He spent the next hour between my legs with his face and dick.

The man had the stamina of a lion. Despite being intimate every night, he still had the desire to be balls deep inside me again the following morning. Not that I was complaining, in the least, but our relationship had done a complete one-eighty, and I was helplessly trying to hang on for dear.

Every second of every day, I slowly forgave him and found my way back to our love. However, with that said, it didn’t take away the fear I had of him hurting me again. I knew I was possibly being irrational, but that didn’t stop the mixed emotions of getting caught up with him in a way that was more than just working together.

To the world, we were engaged.

To me, it felt like we were as well.

But that little voice in the back of my head wouldn’t go away, no matter how much I hoped it did. To my shock, our working relationship didn’t miss a step. In fact, we worked extremely well together, and it was easy to glide through his press tour.

We hadn’t spoken about what would happen two weeks from now when our contract was over and I was no longer his publicist. It almost felt as if there was a ticking time bomb or an expiration date on this fairy tale I was unexpectedly in with him. He told me he loved me on a daily basis and didn’t hold back his feelings for me. If anything, they intensified because he didn’t hold back on kissing me, touching me, telling me how much he missed and loved me.

I shook away the reckless thoughts that had taken over my mind and focused on the table filled with Oasis company’s six board members. My plate was already full. I didn’t need any more stuff piling up. Although, I had to give him some credit. The man had some brass balls for walking into every meeting like he owned the damn place. Even when he didn’t.

I’d be lying if I said I didn’t want to shake his hand for it. Nobody had yet to figure out who they were messing with. With each stride that led their CEO to sit on the opposite end of the table, parallel to them, I felt myself tense further into oblivion.

Right on cue, Elias placed his hand on my thigh under the table to ease my tension. Upon impact, I subtly jumped, but he never removed his hand. It did provide the reassurance I needed, and I was immediately calmed by just his touch.

“What is this?” Thomas, one of the board members, questioned.

“Don’t look at her,” Elias ordered, bringing Thomas’s attention back to him instead of me. “You only look at me.”

He did, tapering his eyes.

“As of this morning, I own your shares in this company.”

I jerked back, rendered speechless. I didn’t know it was going to go down like this, and I hated being blindsided again.

“And my first order of business,” Elias didn’t delay adding, “is giving those shares to Capri.”

I resisted the urge to gasp, and Elias gripped my thigh, warning me to remain in control of my emotions.

“You’re fired, Thomas. Effective immediately. If you have a problem with that?—”

“You bet your ass I do.”

Elias snidely smiled. “You can take it up with my lawyer.”

My composure strained again, and he once again gripped my leg, silently demanding I hold in my responses. Under normal circumstances, this would be business, not personal, but this takeover was all personal, and I had no idea why he gave it to me.
