Elias pulled the contract out from his briefcase, setting it in front of me.

“You can’t do this,” Thomas roared.

“I already did.” Grabbing my hand off my lap, he gave me a pen. “Sign here.”

“A little warning would have been appreciated, Elias,” I softly whispered for only him to hear.

Gripping my leg harder, he repeated, “Sign, beauty.”

The apprehension was written clear across my face, so he pulled the only card he had, insisting, “Trust me.”

I thought about it only briefly before signing on the dotted line.

Elias beamed, loving that I did trust him. For all I knew, I could have just signed my life away because he told me to.

He looked back up at Thomas. “You have ten minutes to clean out your office.”

“You can’t do this!” Thomas yelled while they grabbed him and dragged him out of the building, kicking and screaming. “I’m going to sue you for everything you're worth!”

Elias declared, “Looking forward to it,” as I slammed the door in Thomas’s face.

I gathered my composure, adjusting my skirt, knowing there was an argument brewing between Elias and me. My eyes were wide, and my mouth was slightly parted. The way he was staring at me, feeling me, loving me was evident in his bright blue eyes.

I couldn’t hide my emotions from him. He’d never allow it.

The VP announced, “Your reputation precedes you, Elias. Quite an introduction you showed us today.”

He walked back to his chair and sat down.

“I’m just saying…” he clarified. “That was a hell of a takeover.”

Elias mocked in a condescending tone, “If I wanted your opinion, I’d ask for it.”

“I—”

Elias didn’t give him a chance to reply, grabbing the folder sitting in front of me, and I got right down to business. It was time to go over the numbers, the logistics, and everything in between.

All while his hand…
