WEEK 4 OF PRESS TOUR

“I don’t give a fuck!” I shouted into my cell phone. “You’ve had a week, and the only answers you give me are incompetent ones.”

“Elias,” Tony, my lawyer, coaxed. “Trust me, I completely understand your frustration.”

“Don’t you dare patronize me. I’m not a pussy, Tony. I don’t need you to fuck me.”

I was at my wit's end. Nothing had been solved since Kyle’s team flipped the narrative. I expected retaliation from buying out his father’s share of Oasis and handing it to Capri, but I didn’t expect for one second that it would be Capri he’d come after.

I was ready to do whatever it took to get back whatever he still had, and I’d yet to get a straight answer about what that was. Not only did the piece of shit flip the script but he also made the world doubt Capri in a character assignation. The press was having a field day with printing lie after lie about our relationship, and it was taking its toll on her and her family.

Everything always rolls downhill, so as much as her parents shouldn’t be involved, they were. Beginning with her mother’s company, which was getting the worst press for something that had nothing to do with them.

For the past week, I struggled with losing control, and I was debating on breaking laws and his legs to make him talk and tell the truth.

“Elias, you need to calm down.”

“I need to calm down? You need to do your job that I’m paying you thousands for and you’ve yet to make it worth it. Either you get to the bottom of this, or I’m going to get to the bottom of you, and by that, I mean you’ll never work again. Am I making myself clear?”

“Yes.”

“You have a day.”

“Elias—”

I hung up. Annoyed was an understatement of what I was feeling.

Along with pissed off and ready to burn the world for her.

We still hadn’t figured out jack shit about what we needed to know. The pieces of the puzzle were still scattered everywhere. The only problem was we couldn’t figure it out on our own. I hated having to rely on other people when I knew all it would take was my hands around his neck to stop another second of this bullshit.

There had to be something. Anything that could point us in the right direction to find the evidence we needed to put an end to all of this. To make matters worse, Oasis launched tomorrow, and it couldn’t have been the worse timing had we tried and done this on purpose.

“You’re yelling,” Capri announced, walking into my office.

We were still at our home in Texas, working from there.

“I’m handling it.”

“You keep saying that.”

“Beauty, I suggest you tread lightly right now. I can only handle so much, and if you’re coming in here to ride my ass about this, you’re going to see a side of me you won’t like.”

She lifted her hands in the air. “I come in peace.”

I hated snapping at her, but I couldn’t help it. I was too far gone at that point.

“What can I do? What do you need from me? Do you want a hug?” She stretched her arms out. “I’m a good hugger.”

“Capri…”

She shrugged, acting all cute. “Don’t you like my dress? I’m wearing yellow for you.”

“You always look beautiful, no matter what you wear.”

She smiled. “There’s my fiancé.”

I hid back a smile. She knew what she was doing and how to calm me down. Even if it were only for a few minutes, she had the power to ease my stress.
