I feel myself getting all weepy again and begin to sniffle.

“Come on now,” he says, waving his hand. “No more crying. You’re already dehydrated. Keep drinking that water. That’s an order.”

“I didn’t know what I was going to do until you got here,” I whimper, grabbing a tissue from a box on the bedside table. “Jas is sick too, so she couldn’t help me. Then Mandi left, and Beckett’s still sick. Eli, I can barely move. If you hadn’t come over, I’d have had to crawl to the cafeteria just to get some water.”

“I had every intention of checking on you after I saw how you were this morning,” he assures me. “You looked pretty out of it then, but that’s nothing compared to how you look now.”

“Just what every woman wants to hear.”

The corner of his mouth tugs up, and he shoots me an amused look. “You know what I mean.”

“I know,” I mumble, closing my eyes. “I owe you one. Seriously. If you need something whenever I’m better, just let me know, and I’m your girl.”

“Fair enough,” he says, then goes about unpacking the rest of his stuff.

“Eli, you probably shouldn’t stay long. I’m sure I’m contagious.”

“Don’t worry about me,” he says, waving a hand. “I’ve got a superhuman immune system most of the time.”

“Lucky you.” I heave a sigh, then kick off my comforter. “Oh my god, I’mboiling.”

Unfortunately, it’s too little too late before I realize that I’ve got nothing on my lower half but my little black panties.

“Oh, shit.” I fumble for the comforter again before glancing over at Eli. Yeah, he’s definitely noticed my underwear.

I’m not fast enough with the blanket, but Eli, to his credit, just smiles.

“Don’t worry, sweetheart. I promise, I’m not here to take advantage of you in your weakened state. I’m not that kind of guy. Nice undies, though. Very nice.”

Sweetheart, again! I grow hot, but this time it has nothing to do with my fever. “Uh, sorry for flashing you.”

“That makes one of us,” he says cheerfully. “Seriously though, do you want to change out of your clothes? I can get you whatever you need.”

“Yes, desperately. I tried to get up before to do it and slid right to the floor.”

“Fuck. That’s not good.” He walks over to my dresser. “Okay, what do you want?”

“There’s a blue tank top and matching pajama shorts in the top drawer. And a new pair of underwear would be great.”

He digs through the drawer and finds what I need, then pulls out a pair of lacy white underwear and holds them up in front of him, a big smile on his face. “Okay, I really, really like these.”

“Yeah? Hmm. They look like they’d be a little tight on you.” I struggle to sit up as he hands me the clothes.

Eli snorts. “Smart ass. Alright, I’m going to step out while you change. I’ll be right outside in case you fall out of bed and need me to come to your rescue or something.”

“Uh, thanks.” I glance down at the damp bed sheets. “Will you help me change the sheets and pillowcase after I’m done? I’m just a sweaty mess, and the sheets aren’t much better.”

“Sure. Change your clothes first, then I’ll do that.”

After he goes out into the hall, I spend the next few minutes struggling out of my wet clothes before pulling on the fresh ones.

Oh, that’s so much better. I can’t do much about my damp hair, but the Tylenol should kick in soon and help lower the fever, which should stop the sweating.

“I’m decent,” I call.

He peeks his head inside the room and grins. “Well, that’s no fun.”

“Ha ha.”
