The children who’d been running for the barn stopped and turned to behold this fascinating sight before them. Ella grinned from ear to ear.

The horses stopped about ten feet in front of her and one of the riders hopped down with confidence as if he’d done it his entire life. The rest of the men did the same. This was elaborate and fun. Ella clapped with joy.

Then the first man took off his helmet and Ella grinned even wider. It was indeed Bass, and damn did the man look like a true medieval warrior. She was incredibly turned on, which was awkward in the middle of such a large crowd. He wasn’t smiling as his gaze met hers, and she grew a little confused.

“Ms. Ella Jones, you’ve been accused of treason,” Bass said in a booming voice that carried over the crowd. The audience clapped as they grinned at the display. They were loving this. She smiled at Bass.

“Treason for what, good sir?” she replied. She didn’t mind being a damsel in distress one little bit. She wondered how she could keep some of that gear on him when she pulled him into her bed just as soon as she possibly could.

“Treason of the heart,” Bass said. Her heart thundered as she realized what might be happening.

“I would never commit treason of the heart,” she replied in a shaky voice.

“Well this heart will shatter before all the maids and lads of the land if you deny me my wish,” he said. He moved forward, walking with confidence.

“And what is that wish?” she asked.

He dropped to his knee and held out his hand where a stunning platinum band with multiple sparkling diamonds was clutched between two fingers. She couldn’t stop her tears from flowing.

“Marry me, Ella. Make me the happiest knight in all of the land,” he said, his words slightly choked at the end.

“Are you sure?” she asked, and the crowd gasped as if she was the daftest woman they’d ever seen in their lives. She might just be.

“I’m sure I can’t and won’t live without you. You’re the love of my life. Be mine . . . please.”

She couldn’t find words as she nodded and held out her hand. He slipped the ring on her finger . . . a perfect fit. It was heavy and sparkled so much she hoped she didn’t blind anyone around her. Bass jumped to his feet and pulled her against him before dipping her and taking her lips in a kiss that took her breath away.

He then let her go and gave her a wink before stepping back. She gazed at him with confusion as he stepped farther and farther away. She looked over at Rachel who was giggling madly. What now?

“Guards, seize her,” Bass said.

Ella was in shock as two of the knights moved forward and grabbed her, tied her with a rope, then lifted her onto the front of Bass’s horse, which he’d already mounted again. Bass wrapped his arms around her and then turned and trotted off.

The crowd cheered behind them as Ella sat there for a full thirty seconds in shock.

“What in the world was that?” she finally asked.

He leaned forward, his lips against her ears. “Had to make a good show for the kiddos.” He paused for a long moment. “But I like this rope around you.” He then licked her earlobe before kissing the back of her neck.

Heat flooded her entire body. She was fully vulnerable to him . . . and she liked it . . . she liked it a heck of a lot.

They came to the private barn on the back of the property and Bass dismounted, then pulled her down as two workers reined the horse and took it inside. Bass lifted her in his arms, marched to his vehicle, and slid her inside. She was still tied up.

He climbed in the SUV and she raised her brows at him. “Are you going to release me?” she asked with a laugh.

He started the car. “I’m not sure. I guess we’ll see how the night goes.” He put the car into drive and peeled out of there. He was just as anxious to get her somewhere private as she was to be alone with him.

She’d just agreed to marry the man and already they were off to a new adventure. Nothing had been predictable in all of their relationship and it appeared it never would be. There was nothing she wasn’t willing to try with this man . . . nothing.

As she was currently bound in ropes with her man in leather and metal, looking highly sexy, she realized that might be saying something. She was on the best adventure of her life and it was only going to get better from this moment on.

“Drive faster,” she said, her body on fire.

He looked at her, and there must’ve been something in her expression because he pushed his foot down on the gas pedal and they zoomed along the winding road. She had a feeling this was the way it was going to be for the rest of their lives . . . she really hoped so at least.
