“Fine,” she said, pushing her chips towards the middle of the table so her tidy towers fell towards my takings. “I’m all in, too.”

“What do you have?” I asked, getting ready to act my ass off.

She threw down a jack and nine. “Two pair.”

“Fuck,” I said, shaking my head before smacking my cards face down on the table. “I’ve got two threes.”

“What?!” She grabbed the edge of the table as she lunged forward. “So I win? Holy shit!” She jumped up, her full breasts moving under her tank top as she grabbed her head in both hands. “That’s insane!” She did a sexy little winning dance, her hips swaying side to side while her arms raised the roof to music only she could hear. Then she grabbed her clothes off the back of the chair, bundled them into her arms, and squealed all the way to the bathroom.

I didn’t realize I was smiling at her giddiness until I felt Tanner’s eyes on me and turned to meet them. “What?”

His gaze grew beady. “You bet it all on a pair of threes?”

I shrugged. “I thought she’d fold on my bluff after seeing what happened to you.”

“Bullshit.” He dove across the table and swatted my hand away, his free hand pinching my cards before I could stop him. When he saw what I had, his pupils doubled in size, and I watched them dance between my cards and the diamonds that were still laid out beside the draw pile. “Holy shit, Draper. I didn’t think you had it in you.”

My jaw clenched so hard it ached. “If you say a word, I’ll fucking end you.”

“What the hell would compel you to do such a thing?”

The first thoughts that came to mind were unspeakable. “The same thing that compelled you to let her play,” I said, trying to cover my ass.

“Clearly not,” he said, shaking his head at the cards again. “I let her play cause I wanted to see her tits.”

“Get out,” I said, standing as tall as I could in my boxers and one silly sock. “Put your fucking pants on and get out.”

“Calm down, man,” he said, shoving my cards in the pile. “Your secret’s safe with me.”

“What secret?” Maddy asked as she walked out of the bathroom, her bra straps peeking out from under her tank top again. Not that it mattered. I could still picture the way her nipples had poked through the thin fabric of her shirt, each begging to be licked and sucked. She was still so flushed and glowing from her win she almost looked sun kissed, and I caught myself thinking about her black panties, about how the lace would feel against my cock, about the sweet scent that wafted from them when she held them out to me earlier.

“Nothing,” I said, shooting Tanner a look that said I will put your face through this table if you breathe another word.

“Come on,” she said, her red toes sinking into the carpet as she made her way over. “Two seconds ago, I was one of the guys, and now you’re keeping secrets from me?”

You were never one of the guys, I thought, as the same words left Tanner’s mouth.

She feigned a pout and started stacking the chips in the middle of the table, her low-cut top dipping so I could see the inviting shadow between her breasts. “I suppose that’s for the best,” she said. “Your poker nights probably wouldn’t be as much fun if I was always around to kick your ass.”

Tanner scoffed so hard it came out like a snort.

“What?” Maddy asked, looking up from the table. “What’s so funny?” Her eyes darted over to me.

“Don’t mind him,” I said. “He’s just a sore loser.”

“Better than being a fucking pussy,” Tanner said, glaring at me as he pulled his pants on. “No offense, Maddy.”

“Losing doesn’t make you a pussy,” she said. “It just means you need to work on your game.”

I thought her gloating was adorable, but I couldn’t enjoy it when Tanner was clearly out for blood. “Depends on what game you’re playing,” he said. “I was playing poker, for example.”

Maddy straightened up and furrowed her brow. “Am I missing something?”

I couldn’t decide if I was more pissed that he wasn’t letting her enjoy her win or more pissed that he was trying to embarrass me. “You don’t have to clean up the chips,” I said, opening the silver case and handing her the stack of bills she’d won. “That’s the runner up’s job.” I kept my eyes on Tanner as I grabbed my jeans off the couch.

“Do you guys want to celebrate with another drink?” she asked, fanning her cash out. “I’m buying.”

“Tanner was just leaving,” I said before he could agree.
