Do what?

The knee-jerk reaction to tell him to go to hell seared the tip of my tongue.I wasn’t going to crawl like a dog to him, or anyone.Yes, I wanted to spend one more day with them, but not at the cost of my self-respect.As I opened my mouth to tell Nick where he could shove his request, I had a shocking epiphany.

This was the final test. The one that determined my fate, their fate, and the fate of any future we might have together.

Shoving down the caustic humiliation bubbling inside me, I leaned forward and positioned myself on all fours.Forcing my limbs to move, I choked back a sob and began crawling toward them.Inching closer and closer, I tamped down my pride and let the tattered threads of my submission knit through me.

“Head up.Eyes on us,” Dylan commanded in a stern, uncompromising tone.

When I raised my head, the wide-open window flashed a neon sign of dread.I faltered for a moment then clenched my teeth, determined to see the lesson through.

“Move your ass, pet. You’re trying what little patience we have left,” Nick growled.

If this isn’t a test, you can throw them out.My inner voice railed in defense of my crumbling ego.I issued a small nod, not at Nick’s caustic command, but at the submissive longing burning within.

As I gazed up at their critical stares, a myriad of emotions tore through me.Anger.Debasement.Servitude.Embarrassment.Arousal.Fear.Contentment.The combination didn’t make a lick of sense, but I continued crawling toward them, determined to see what happened next.

As I neared their feet, Nick leaned forward and threaded his strong hand into my hair. When he cinched a tight fist, sending prickles of pain and pleasure skipping over my scalp, a fluttering cry tore from my throat.

“Good girl.Kneel.”Though Nick’s voice was flat…void of the whiskey smooth timbre I’d grown accustomed to, his first two words made my heart sing.

“Dylan, would you mind closing the curtains? We need her full attention for this discussion,” Nick asked, flipping on the lamp on the end table beside him.

“You’re damn right we do,” Dylan muttered before rising and jerking the drapes shut.

Relief that no one could gawk at my naked body did little to soothe my prickled nerves. As Dylan sat back down, he cupped my chin. With the broad pad of his thumbs, he wiped the tears from my cheeks and issued a heavy sigh. His jaw ticked as he released my face.

“Trust is very fragile.Once broken, it’s hard to mend.Don’t you agree?”Nick asked in a deep authoritative tone.

“Yes, Sir.I’m sorry.”

“Don’t give me another fucking apology, girl.Give me the truth. For once, just give me the truth.”His eyes narrowed.

“I’ll give you all the truth I have, Sir.”

“Let’s hope youfinallydo.”He speared me with a look of disapproval so intense; I felt it to my bones.“Why did you run away from us this morning?”

My heart raced, and I began sweating more.“I didn’t want you knowing I’d made a mistake.”

“A mistake?”Dylan asked in a seething tone.“You think the time we shared was a fucking mistake?”

“No, Sir,” I amended quickly.“I saidI’dmade a mistake.”

“Go on,” Nick prompted.

“I did a stupid and foolish thing.”I swallowed tightly.I hated being forced to spill my guts.“With my heart, Sirs.”

My gaze darted between them.I grew more confused as their expressions softened and slow smiles spread over their lips.

“What happened to your heart, little one?”Nick asked softly.

“I lost it, Sir.To both of you,” I confessed.

“So, you fell in love with us, is that what you’re saying?”Dylan arched his brows.

“Yes,” I whispered, waiting for them to laugh at me for being so stupid and foolish.

Instead, Nick cupped my chin and forced my gaze. After searching my eyes for long, unnerving seconds, he exhaled a heavy sigh.“Did you ever happen to think that maybe we fell in love with you, too?”
