“No! No, lady. You’re gonna die if you stay in the car,” I barked.

Realizing she probably couldn’t hear me, I started off the porch to fetch her, but paused when she suddenly sat up. After shoving the driver’s side door open, she launched from the vehicle.

“Hurry,” I yelled, frantically waving her my way again.

Clutching her purse to her chest, she raced toward me. Rain pelted her body, and her long, wheat-blonde hair whipped across her face as dirt and broken tree limbs sailed through the air. When I darted a glance at the roaring beast swirling toward us, my heart rate spiked and fear rolled through me.

Though the woman ran like an Olympic sprinter, the tornado was moving faster. I worried we wouldn’t make it to the storage room in time.

“Move it, lady,” I bellowed.

Right as the words left my lips, a thick piece of wood, jettisoning through the air, clipped the back of her knees…sending her sprawling across the gravel with a frightened scream.

Bolting off the porch, I raced to her and scooped her into my arms.

“Hold on tight,” I yelled above the howling winds as I turned and hauled ass toward the club.

She didn’t hesitate this time. Wrapping her willowy arms around my neck, she buried her face in my chest. The touch of her fingers cupping my nape sent a jolt of electricity sizzling through me. It didn’t matter the Grim Reaper was fixin’ to eat us for lunch; I couldn’t ignore how perfect she felt nestled in my arms.

As I stepped onto the porch, the heavy cross lifted off the ground and disappeared above my head. An ominous chill skipped down my spine. Darting into the club, I ran as if the hounds of hell were nipping at my heels. The entire building shook. The sounds of snapping wood and shattering glass thundered in my ears as pieces of ceiling tile and drywall rained down on me.

I tossed a glance over my shoulder and bit out a curse as the roof peeled back, granting a gut-churning view of the violent twister. I squinted my eyes to shield them from the swirling debris. A deafening roar vibrated through me as the front of the building tore apart before being sucked away.

“We’re gonna die,” the woman wailed in terror.

“Not today, darlin’,” I yelled above the cacophony of destruction as I yanked the thick, metal door of the former meat locker open and darted inside…slamming it shut behind me.

Though plunged in total darkness, I didn’t need any light. Having spent all day hauling dungeon furniture from the fifteen-by-fifteen-foot room, I knew exactly where we needed to go. Striding toward the far-left corner of the room, I gently eased the woman onto a padded bondage table. There were plenty of items, sealed in big plastic totes, we could use to ride out the twister.

Not the floggers, whips, or handcuffs, but candles, blankets, and a first aid kit.

Tugging out my cell phone, I tapped the flashlight app. As light flooded the room, I finally got a good look at her, and my heart nearly stopped. My mouth went dry.

She was the most beautiful woman I’d ever seen.

Though a concerning trickle of blood seeped from her forehead—melding with the tears staining her delicate cheeks—and her wet-clumped hair hung lifelessly over her slender shoulders, her big, hazel eyes, and plump, pink lips awakened something primal inside me I’d never felt before.

“Thank you. That’s much better,” she whispered with a ghost of a smile before glancing around the room. “What is this place?”

“It used to be a club…a private club,” I replied, purposely omitting the topic of BDSM.

I could tell by her confused expression, she wasn’t in the lifestyle. I didn’t want to explain the kinds of things that had been done here and freak her out. She was already scared enough.

When she lifted a bloodied hand toward her face, I gently cupped her wrist. Struggling to ignore the tingles of electricity sputtering through me again, I guided her flesh-torn hand back to her lap.

“You’re bleeding,” I said, nodding toward her knuckles.

She glanced down and scowled. “Oh, I hadn’t even noticed.”

“Give me a second I know there’s a first aid kit in here somewhere.”

Just as I stepped toward the plastic tubs stacked against the other wall, a deafening crash sounded above us. The woman yelped and covered her head as I aimed the light toward the metal roof.

“It’s all right,” I assured. “I think the roof’s been welded in place.”

“Does that mean it’s not going to fly off like the other one did?”

The fear in her voice cut through me like a knife.
