“Shhh. Don’t say a word, or make any sounds,” I instructed in a low, even whisper. “Just turn around nice and slow, and I won’t blow a hole through your bowels or cause sepsis to dissolve your organs.”

“W-what do you—”

When I pressed the barrel harder to his pasty flesh, he snapped his jaw shut. Body trembling, and panic shimmering in his eyes, he slowly turned.

“Good boy,” I replied in a patronizing tone and guided him inside a waiting elevator. “We’re going back upstairs, to your new apartment, to have a little…chat, cockbag.”

As the doors closed, I dropped the box. Standing close beside him to conceal the gun from the cameras in the corners, I punched the button for the 64thfloor.

Wesley’s eyes widened in surprise.

“I did my homework.” I smirked. “Be a good boy again and reach into your pocket…nice and slow. Then hand me the key to your apartment.”

“W-who are you?” he stammered, but complied.

“I’m your worst fucking nightmare,” I growled, plucking the key from his palm.

Like acid, the urgency to get to Emma burned my veins. Clenching my jaw, I shoved all thoughts of her aside. I couldn’t afford to let emotions invade my mission. I had a job to do, and an enemy to take care of first.

As the elevator slowed to a stop, I nodded toward the box. “Pick it up…nice and slow, Wesley.”

“What’s in it?” he asked, doing as he’d been told.

“Toys,” I said with an evil grin.

A brutal wave of panic exploded from his body.

“Don’t kill me. Please don’t kill me,” he whined as tears trickled down his cheeks. “I have money. I’m rich…real soon, I’ll be a whole lot richer. How much do you want, I’ll—”

“I don’t want your money,” I said, cutting him off as the elevator doors opened.

“Then w-what do you want?”

“For you to shut the fuck up until we’re inside your apartment,” I hissed, jabbing the gun harder before guiding him into the hallway.

Ratcheting my senses up another notch, I paused when we reached his door. If the prick grew a pair and made a move against me, he’d do it now…before I got him alone.

A split-second later, a flicker of defiance skittered over his face.

I shook my head and tsk’d. “Don’t even think about it,” I warned, opening the door. “I’ll be happy to leave you here, bleeding out on the floor, like you did my friend.”

Wesley gasped and blinked at me. As an incredulous expression settled over his face, I shoved him inside the apartment, then closed and locked the door.

“That’s what this is about?” he yelled, whipping around to face me before tossing the box to the floor. “You want payback because I shot the prick who was withmyEmma?”

She’s not your Emma, you stupid son of a bitch!

“And a whole lot more,” I snarled, gripping him by the throat and lifting him off the floor.

Gasping for breath, Wesley kicked his legs and clawed at my hand.

I raised the gun, and pressed the barrel between his eyes, then arched a brow in warning.

He instantly stopped fighting and closed his eyes.

Like an approaching summer storm, I could feel Emma’s energy sizzling in the air.

Not yet. I gotta deal with this cocksucker first.
