“You found me. Y-you really found me,” I sobbed, clutching his shirt in my fists.

“Of course, I did, gorgeous. I would never stop looking for you.”

“Oh, Grant…I love you,” I whimpered, letting all my emotions spill free.

Softly cupping my chin, he gently tilted my head back and stared into my watering eyes.

“I love you, too, Emma,” he said in a thick, low voice before skimming a feather-soft kiss over my throbbing lips.

My heart swelled with such pure and unbelievable happiness, it nearly burst from my chest.

“Take me home…back to the ranch, please,” I begged.

“Soon, baby. I’m gonna take you home real soon.”

As he glanced at what was left of the door, his muscles tensed as he clenched his jaw.

“He’s out there, isn’t he?”

“Yes. And I need to deal with him before we go.”

“Please, don’t leave me in here.”

“Baby, I’m never letting you out of my sight again,” he vowed. After carrying me out of the room, Grant paused in the hallway. A pained expression lined his face. “Things are about to get very…unpleasantfor Wesley. I don’t want you out of my sight, but I don’t want you to see my dark side, either.”

The night he’d confessed to killing Aubrey’s murderer, Grant hadn’t shared graphic details with me. He didn’t have to. I knew, from his letters and the things his sister had told me, Grant possessed a dangerous dark side, and savage skills for inflicting horrific and unimaginable kinds of torture.

Still…I’d never once been afraid of him.

“I can handle it.”

“I don’t think you know how truly evil and ugly my dark side is, baby.”

“I don’t care. I know there’s light inside you, too…and it’s blinding. It shines with all the care, compassion, and understanding…and a million other things inside your big heart that made me fall in love with you.”

“You do understand there’s no way Wesley is coming out of this alive, right?”

“I know, and thank you.”

Grant blanched. “You’rethankingme for what I’m about to do to a man you’ve known forever?”

“He’s not a man. He’s a deranged monster…a dangerous rabid dog. Someone needs to put him out of his misery…someone like you.” Grant looked at me like I’d lost my mind, too. Maybe I had, but I couldn’t think of any other way to stop Wesley’s madness. “I want to know one thing before he dies.”

“What?”

“You have your cell phone, right?”

“Yes.”

“Good. If I can get Wesley to give the details about his bigplan, I’d like you to record it.”

“Oh, he’ll tell you what you want to know, or I’ll force him to. Either way, you’re gonna get your answers, and I’ll record every word. After the hell he’s put you through, he owes you that much.”

Grant’s decadent body heat warmed me to the bone. But when he carried me into the living room, the sight of the syringes and drugs on the table, coupled with Wesley tied to the chair with a strip of duct tape over his mouth, didn’t stop a chill from quaking through me.

Striding to the edge of the open kitchen, Grant gently eased me onto my feet—a generous and safe distance from Wesley—before tucking the sheet around my naked body. When he was done, he reached behind his back and pulled out a gun. Pinning Wesley with a penetrating stare, Grant dragged a sturdy, thickly padded, wooden chair from the kitchen table and set it beside me.

As I eased onto the soft surface, Grant strolled back to Wesley before checking the ropes binding his arms and legs.
