Gently, they skimmed under the thin material of the shorts, and reversed to move upwards again.

A shock went up her body as his cold fingers brushed against the top elastic of the shorts. Her eyes flew open.

Like a handful of ice cubes being thrown down her shirt, Nathan’s touch on the bare skin of her stomach brought reality crashing down through the haze in her mind like an ax.

What was she doing?

Laying on Nathan Rondeau’s bed with his lips working at her mouth and his hands running up her skin, and her body begging for more.

Whatthe hellwas she doing?

This was not the plan.

Kissing him was the plan. A small kiss, simple and barely anything more than a peck.

This—the hands, the gasping, the grasping at his shirt—wasnotthe plan.

This was a mistake, a very big one she needed to fix right now.

So she did what any reasonable person would do as the sobering regret hit them like a freight train—she yelped into Nathan’s mouth and swung her arm at his face.

Well, she thought she was aiming for his face, but it flew low and Nathan hissed and crumpled off of her as her fist collided with the base of his neck near his collarbone.

Oh God.Oh God.

“Shit.” Nathan fell back off the bed and onto the floor and Tully yelped. Her face flamed. Nathan spewed a stream of curses, grasping at his neck.

Now, she could have apologized and explained that this was a mistake and she wasn’t thinking straight, but she didn’t do that. No, she had to do something better.

She ran.

She sprinted to his door and fumbled with the lock. The room around her buzzed in her ears as her mind panicked in her escape, and she could barely make out Nathan calling her name when she got the door open and ran from it.

She ran so fast she almost fell down the steps. So fast she barely noticed Joliet watching her go while the rest of the partygoers didn’t even spare her a second glance.

This entire thing was a disaster.

A disaster of the highest order. So horrific and humiliating that she would never be able to come back from it again.

4 Days After the Party

Whistles chorused through the hallway.

Tully had no choice but to ignore them as she grabbed Nathan’s long shirt sleeve and pulled him after her.

What the hell did he think he was doing?

This wasnotwhat she asked him to do.

Luckily, he didn’t resist her tugs as she hurried him away from her sister who stared after them with a clenched jaw.

Suggestive hollers followed them all the way down to the exit, and out into the courtyard. In this state, people would be stumbling over themselves trying to intrude on their private conversation.

What a mess.
