“You’re pissing me off.”

He rubs his jaw. “Do you think me putting you over my lap is an empty threat?” he asks, raising a brow. “Because you’ve got one more time to let your lips run loose before I do it.”

Again, that little flash of heat moves through me, and I’m tempted to run my mouth just to make him make good on his threat.

Jesus, you’ve lost your mind.

When I don’t say anything else, triumph moves over his face and he’s the one to move forward now. “What I do with you all depends on how long it takes to get this done. Your contract was for a year. You have three months left. If I can bring Dox down before your contract is up, I’ll consider letting you go early.”

Consider.

I swallow. “And if you still haven’t brought him down when the year is up?”

A cruel smile crosses his face, revealing the devil I’m more than familiar with. “Then I’ll just have to keep you longer.”

CHAPTER THREE: VITO

Easley Yorkeasilyhas one of the dumbest names I’ve ever heard.

But the man is anything but dumb, and as I look across the desk at him, I have to wonder if Giovanni has made a smart decision in meeting up with the young accountant.

We did just kill his uncle a few weeks ago after all.

Sheffield’s nephew looks nothing like him, the young man trim with long blonde hair, a clean shaven face, and ocean blue eyes. He looks more like a model than an accountant, but I know for a fact he’s more of a loan shark than anything.

The accountant job is nothing but a good cover.

And it’s worked perfectly for him.

But before Sheffield was killed, he always mentioned that his nephew was getting too big for his britches, that he wanted to move up in the ranks, start doing more, getting more involved in the shady side of things.

Which is why Giovanni suggested that we come to him to make a deal.

Before the whole war started with Sheffield, Giovanni had made an agreement to marry his daughter, Sienna. The marriage would help cement a deal for the York family to join the Costa family. We’re still hurt for numbers after the last war we had with the seven quad gang, and with another one on the horizon, we need numbers fast.

However, when Winter had come into the picture, Sheffield hadn’t been able to take it. He’d gone on and on about how we were disrespecting him and his daughter. Which sure, maybe if the whole thing with Winter was real and she wasreallyGiovanni’s mistress it’d be disrespectful. But considering it’d just been a cover, one we couldn’t tell Sheffield about, it’d left Giovanni between a rock and a hard place.

Either get rid of Winter or face having bad blood with Sheffield.

Giovanni had gone with the second option without blinking.

I know part of the reason why had been that he didn’t like Sheffield thinking he was calling the shots and ordering him around. The other reason had been because he couldn’t just kill Winter. He needed her to get back at Dox and that wasn’t going to happen if she was six feet deep before he could execute his plan.

Rubbing my chin, I think not for the first time, about the fact that I have no idea what Giovanni is going to do with Winter moving forward.

When he’d originally revealed his plan to me, which had taken a while, it’d been clear that he planned on killing Winter. He wanted to use her, parade her around in front of Dox, fucking and torturing the old man’s daughter. And then he’d kill her right in front of him.

I always thought that plan was stupid and halfcocked.

How could a man who’d killed his sister and his wife care about the death of his bastard, incestuous daughter that he didn’t acknowledge?

Easy, he wouldn’t.

At some point, Giovanni must have clued into that fact and remembered he wasn’t dealing with a man who cared about his bloodline.

Yet, I still don’t know how he’s going to play this whole thing out?

Use both the man’s son and daughter to take him down? Trick him using his own blood the way he did to Vincenzo Costa, Giovanni and Maximo’s father?
