“I hope you got my size right.” I mock glare at him.

“Well, if I didn’t, it’s all your mother’s fault.” Owen chuckles. “I’ll leave you to get changed and do your thing. I have a meeting with Parker and Lucas in a few minutes. Tell Leo I said he’s in charge of showing you around the rest of the facility. Or I'm sure Danny would jump at the chance.” Owen rolls his eyes.

“Is he someone I need to worry about?”

“Danny? Nah, he’s harmless, but he’s going to flirt. The man has no game when it comes to the ladies.”

“Or he just doesn’t let you see it.” I smirk. “After all, not everyone can be Owen Powell and charm the ladies like they were born to do it.”

“If I were thirty years younger.” Owen shakes his head.

“You still wouldn’t touch me because my dad would murder you.” I blink up at him innocently.

“You’ve got that right!” He barks out a laugh and shakes his head. “Alright, sweetheart, call or text if you need anything at all. Otherwise, I’ll see you next week.” He presses a gentle kiss to the top of my head like Dad does all the time.

As soon as the door closes behind Owen, I flick the lock and strip out of my clothes. I’d rather be wearing a sports bra for this, but there’s nothing I can do about it now. I quickly change into a pair of yoga pants and a t-shirt, then slip on the socks. I don’t care about wearing shoes. Sometimes I take them off while I'm working so I'm more comfortable.

I step back into the therapy room to find three more guys waiting with Leo. I don’t bother asking them what they need, I'm going to focus on Leo, then go from there.

“Alright, Leo. Let’s get this shoulder looked at.” I pat the table and as soon as he’s lying down, I start stretching him out.

“You know, you’re going to give in to him eventually. Why not just skip this and stop torturing yourself? Just put the man out of his misery and go out to dinner with him? He’s the same guy he was when he left Mulberry Lane.” Leo keeps his voice low enough that everyone around us can't hear our conversation. I'm glad. The last thing I need is for rumors to start spreading about Wyatt and me when I haven’t even officially started working here yet.

“Is he though? Because the Wyatt I fell in love with never would’ve broken my heart,” I murmur under my breath and glance around to make sure no one is listening. They’re too busy talking to each other to pay attention to me.

“He didn’t break up with you because he didn’t want to date you, Charlie.” Leo sighs.

“Then why?” I dig my thumb into his shoulder and grin when he winces.

“Fuck, why did I wait until I was at your mercy to have this conversation?” Leo groans as I dig a little deeper and try to loosen his tight muscles.

“Why, Leo?”

“He didn’t want you to follow him through the minors or possibly the majors, possibly moving around the country. He wanted you to go to the college that was best for you and he knew you wouldn’t do that if it separated the two of you. He didn’t know what else to do, so he broke up with you.” Leo hisses as I hit a tender spot, but I don’t stop. He can take the pain.

“That’s the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard. So, he loves me so much that he broke up with me so I would do what’s best for me?”

“I didn’t say he was smart. I just said that’s what he did.”

“We could’ve continued the long-distance thing.”

“He knew you wouldn’t. Hell, the only reason you didn’t go to LSU is because you knew he had less than a year left. You started looking into transferring, then the Pit Bulls signed him. He panicked because he wanted you to go to the best school for physical therapy. He didn’t know what else to do.”

I'm quiet for a while as I let Leo’s words sink in. That really is something Wyatt would do. He’s always put me first, so why would I think he wouldn’t in this instance too?

“So, his plan was just to let go of me forever?”

“Nah, sweetheart.” Leo chuckles. “He always planned on winning you back, I just don’t think he ever imagined he’d go this long without you.”

Chapter 6

Wyatt

Standing in the doorway, I watch her joke around with the guys as she works on them. She’s a natural at this. Owen’s right, she’s the one he needs to be in charge around here.

“Alright, Wheeler, go in the ice bath for two minutes, then in the hot tub.”

“Dang, do you know how hot that’s going to feel?” He shakes his head.
