“That’s not true at all!”

“It is and Charlie saw it too!” Danny hisses.

“Oh, so Everson’s little slut is going to take his side? What a shocker!” He glares my way.

“You’re fucking done,” Owen growls in a low, intimidating voice. “You will not speak about her like that! I know what you were saying about Charlie when you were up at bat. How you were taunting Everson and hoping he’d take the bait. He didn’t. He kept his cool, but he ruffled your feathers, so you took it out on Wheeler.”

“Oh, I barely hit Wheeler!” Stubbs slams his hand down on the desk, making me jump in my chair.

“That man is a solid brick wall and you took him down to the ground,” Danny growls.

“Between the shit you pulled with Wheeler and Everson, and how you’re talking about Charlie to your teammates, I'm done. You’ve been giving me shit since I signed you to this team and I'm not putting up with it anymore.”

“What’s that supposed to mean?”

“I'm going to encourage Charlie to file a sexual harassment complaint against you. I’ve seen the way you act around her and how you’re pissed you didn’t capture her attention over Everson. Newsflash, dickhead, Charlie’s been in love with him since she wasten! You never stood a chance. I watched you eye her like a hungry lion waiting to pounce and I'm fearful of what you’ll do if I keep you on this team, and around her, any longer. I can't even trust you being in a room alone with her. I will not allow my players or staff to feel uncomfortable in their own clubhouse because of one person.”

“You’re going to have to pay out my contract!”

“Yeah, I’d rather pay you and get you off my team, than keep you benched for the rest of your contract and have to stare at your ugly face for the remainder of it andstillhave to pay you.”

“You’re making a fucking mistake!” He roars, getting to his feet.

“Possibly, but I won't regret it. You can expect a phone call from my legal team. I’ll have them start the process in the morning and hopefully you’ll be out of here by Friday.”

“This is all your fucking fault!” Stubbs flips his chair on the side and when he makes a move towards me, Owen slams him against the wall.

“I'm not telling you again. Get the fuck away from Charlie and keep your mouth shut. You’re just digging yourself a deeper hole and you won't make it out alive.” Owen leans his muscular arm against Stubbs’ chest. The murderous look in his eyes is enough to make me want to cower and hide from him.

“You’ll be hearing from my lawyer,” he growls. “You can't touch me like this and get away with it. I’m going after everythingyou have.”

“Have fun. My lawyers will chew you up and spit you out again.” Owen grins. “I have a feeling the judge will love the video evidence of you trying to injure my players and the video of this meeting. I’m sure the judge will feel really bad for the little rich baseball player who was about to lay his hands on the sweet physical therapist.”

“No one is going to take your side on this, not after that baseball player was just put in jail for almost killing his wife. There’s already a bad light on players and you’re not helping it,” Danny says calmly. I’m shocked his voice is so firm and soothing because he looks like he’s seconds away from pushing Owen out of the way and going after Stubbs himself.

“Get out of my office. I expect your locker to be cleared out and any club items to be returned. Mikey’s waiting outside to escort you out of the clubhouse. He’ll take your parking pass when you get to your car. Under no circumstance are you to step foot in my stadium without my permission. Do you understand me?”

“Yes,” Stubbs growls and pushes past Owen. He glances over his shoulder at me and the murderous look in his eyes has me shrinking back into Owen’s chair. I don’t think I’ve ever been so scared in my entire life.

Owen peeks his head out the door and mutters quietly to someone before turning his attention back to me. I watch as his features soften and the man who can command any situation slowly melts away, leaving me with the loving uncle I’ve grown to know over the years.

“C’mon, sweetheart.” He holds his arms open and I rush to him, throwing myself against his hard chest. “You’re ok. He can't touch you. I’ll handle everything.”

My body shakes as sobs tear through me. I'm not sure I’ve ever been so scared in my entire life. I'm not sure what he would’ve done to me if Owen hadn’t stopped him.

“What the hell happened?” A deep voice rumbles from the door. I pull away from Owen long enough to find Cord standing in the doorway with a bunch of the guys behind him, trying to peek inside the office.

“Stubbs is gone. He’s not coming back,” Owen says softly. Cord nods his head, understanding what he’s saying. “Get back to training.”

“Not until I get to talk to Charlie.” Cord squares his shoulders and keeps his head held high. As much as he and Owen joke around, he has a lot of respect for his dad. I have no doubt, if Owen tells him to do something he wouldn’t hesitate, but he’s looking out for me now, knowing he could get in trouble.

“Ok. Danny and I have some things to deal with and quite a few phone calls to make. Take my office. You have thirty minutes, then I want you getting back to work. Deal?”

“Thanks, Dad.”

“Yeah, yeah. I think having Charlie here is making me soft on you losers.” Owen rolls his eyes and kisses me on the top of my head. “If you need anything, don’t hesitate to find me. Got it?”

“Yes. Thank you.”
