As soon as Owen and Danny exit the room, the guys file in and surround me. I chuckle when Leo’s the last in the room, pushing Wyatt in an office chair in front of him.

“What are you doing?”

“Did you really think I’d stay stranded on a table when I heard all that yelling and screaming? Not a chance in hell. I had to make sure my girl is ok.” Wyatt scans my face, taking in my tear-stained cheeks and the slight wobble in my bottom lip. “Get over here.” He pats his lap and I shake my head. The last thing he needs is having me on his lap. Plus, the guys will never let us live it down if I do sit on his lap.

“Your knee-”

“My knee is fine and as long as I don’t try to walk on it, and it’s going to continue being fine. You can sit on my good thigh.”

“Wyatt,” I groan. I don’t want to argue about this, especially with such a large audience.

“Holy crap. Just sit on the man’s lap so we can get on with this.” Smithy sighs and motions for me to hurry up.

I shake my head, but when I get a pointed look from each guy, I give in and stomp over to Wyatt, carefully sitting on him.

For the next thirty minutes, the guys ask me one question after another. They really care and they want to make sure I'm ok.

This must be what Mom felt like after she moved in with the guys. The love and care they showed her is so similar to what I'm being shown right now.

I glance around at Wyatt, Leo, Cord, Schmidt, Covey, Smithy, and Wheeler. They’ve made me feel like I'm part of a new family and I’ll be forever grateful for them.

Chapter 24

Wyatt

“Charlie, I’m fine. And you don’t need to do any of that.” I do my best to sit a little higher on the bed as she moves around the room and picks up my dirty clothes from yesterday.

I normally pick up at night before I go to bed, but since I never came home last night, I didn’t get to.

“It’s fine. I don’t want you to trip on anything.” She picks up a pair of shoes and places them beneath my dresser.

“Will you stop and come eat dinner with me?” I hold up the bag of food that was delivered a few minutes ago. I’ve never been so happy to live in a rancher because going up and down stairs would be a bitch right now.

I was able to hobble well enough to the door when the delivery person came and I made sure to order something I knew I could carry while using crutches.

Uncle Jesse’s right. He’s the best orthopedic doctor around and I’d be stupid not to listen to him. Plus, I’ve already gotten a phonecall from Mom. She reamed me out and told me I better listen to Jesse or she’s going to come stay with me and that’s the last thing I need right now.

If she’s here, Dad will be here. He’ll make himself at home and never leave. Nikita, Peyton, and Creed will think they can come and go as they please and I don’t want that. I’ve gotten so used to having my own space, I wouldn’t be able to handle my entire family invading my home.

“What’d you order?” Charlie climbs onto my bed and settles next to me.

“Burritos. I wanted something easy and I know how much you love your chips and queso.”

She eyes me for a second before she snatches the bag out of my hand and opens it up. “I hope you got extra chips and queso,” she murmurs under her breath. “We both know I don’t share.”

“I got three orders.” I chuckle. “Is that enough for you?”

“I guess.” She peeks up at me and smiles. “What’d you get on my burrito?”

“Chicken, white rice, fajita veggies, sour cream, lettuce, cheddar cheese, and queso.”

“Beans?” She arches a brow.

“Never.”

“White or wheat tortilla?”

“White. I'm fairly certain if I had gotten you wheat, you’d throw it at my head.”
