I fight against Antonio to glare back at him, panic setting through my blood. “What?—”

Antonio speaks over me. “OrI release Gigi and kill you.”

“I’m not a man who plays games, Antonio.”

“No games. A simple question.” He slides the gun along the crook of my neck. “You have three seconds, or I kill you both.”

Elijah cowardly glances at me. “Sorry, Gigi,” he says without a second thought. “I?—”

Antonio releases his gun from my neck and shoots Elijah in the head before he can finish his sentence.

“What the hell?” I shriek as Elijah drops to the floor, blood gushing from his head on the black-and-white patterned rug.

Antonio steps away from me. “Looks like you’re back on the market, princess.”

“First, I’m not fucking stock,” I shout. “Second, that doesn’t mean I’m open for anyone else. And last-fucking-ly, I was perfectly content with marrying Elijah, and then you had to ruin it.”

Antonio circles the couch and kicks Elijah’s body while keeping his unsettling gaze on me. “Word of advice, princess: don’t ever marry a man who won’t die for you.”

“You pretty much forced me into not marrying him.”

“If someone held a gun to my head and asked the same question—save me or you—it’ll always be you.”

I release a noisy breath. “Not everyone is as batshit crazy as you.”

“Which is why no one else can have you. Why I’m the only man for you.” He snaps his fingers toward the man, motioning for him to leave, and then steps over Elijah’s lifeless body as if it were a curb before kneeling in front of me.

He catches me by the throat and restrains me when I attempt to scoot away from him. My heart races, and I inhale his scentas he gets in my face. I shiver when he nuzzles his face over my cheek.

“The only person who deserves you, your pussy, your heart is someone who’d bleed for it.” He licks up my neck while squeezing my throat. “Don’t you ever fucking settle for less.”

I attempt to gulp, but his hand on my neck prevents it. “Oh, so settle for someone crazy, like you?”

“Settle?” He pulls back. “Settling is a contractual marriage to make Daddy happy. Us? We’re different. Our hearts burn for each other. We’re a fire that can’t be tamed.” His hand around my neck loosens yet still lingers on my skin.

My heart aches at the truth of his words.

But it also aches at what I know.

My father will kill Antonio for this.

I’ll be his downfall.

“Take me back, Antonio.” I shut my eyes. “You can drop me off within walking distance of the hospital, and I’ll return to my car. I won’t tell my father anything about this.”

“I don’t think you understand, Gigi.”

“Understand this is some sick game all you men play?”

He releases his hand from my neck. “No, that if I don’t protect you, Sonny will gut you like a pig.”

I scrunch my nose at that visual.

“That’s his preferred way of killing. And since he knows killing you will hurt both your family and me, he’ll torture you and most likely tape it so we can see every detail of how he brutally murders you.”

My head spins at the mental image. “My father will protect me.”

“I’d rather protect what’s mine.” He rests his forehead against mine.
