I place my hand out before he can pull me into his skinny arms.

Yeah, that’s a ‘hell, no’ on the hug. “It’s nice to meet you in person, Brandon.”

“Uh, oh, I see.” He shakes my hand, grabbing it in both of his for a little too long. “It’s nice to meet you too. I have to say that your pictures don’t do you justice. You are a knock-out.”

I hope he doesn’t expect me to return the compliment since it’s obvious that he tampered with his pictures. “You know how it is. Pictures on the internet rarely represent what people look like in real life.”

He clears his throat. “So, are you ready to head inside? I hear rock concerts can get pretty wild. I don’t want you to worry, though. I’ll protect you.” He tries to slip his arm around me as we walk toward the entrance, but I dodge him.

I haven’t been touched by a man in four years, and I don’t want his hands on me. I don’t know him, and I’m not really comfortable with him getting so touchy feely so soon.

“Thanks. I’m good.”

“Um, yeah, okay.” His eyes scan the area as soon as we get inside, and he spots the place to buy alcohol and makes a B-line for it. “I’ll get us some drinks before we go find our seats.”

“I’d like a soda can.” I have no intention of letting my guard down tonight.

“You sure? I’m buying. And you’re not driving. I promise I won’t let anything happen to you.”

“I’m sure. Any kind is fine.” Looking at the long line, I know I’ll be waiting for a while, so I take out my cell to entertain myself.

I text Lani.

How is Aurora doing?

She texts back in seconds.

She’s fine. How’s your date going?

Me: This guy is not it. Debating if it is worth staying.

An excited, high-pitched voice from my left catches my attention. “Did you hear about the change in bands?”

“Yeah,” her friend answers. “I just saw it online. The Rockets’ lead singer fell off the balcony of his hotel room and broke his leg. They are replacing them with another headliner.”

Another headliner? Who?

The first girl gushes, “I have dreamed of getting to see Lo in person. I can’t believe Shakedown’s playing here tonight!”

The girls begin jumping up and down.

And my body starts shaking.

I do a quick search on my phone and find that Shakedown, is indeed playing here tonight.

The need to throw up suddenly hits me, and I rush to the ladies’ room, that already has a line from hell.

Gulping and trying not to panic, I walk back to where I was waiting for Brandon.

Shakedown… Apollo’s band.

When the band took off, I lost more than just the love of my life. I lost my best friend too Ares. Apollo’s brother.

They are both in the same band and the blow of losing them both devastated me. And now I’m here and they are playing today.

Oh god.

Ok, let’s be real. This place is crowded, so there is no way my ex will ever see me, right?
