I’m sure the tickets Brandon got are in the nosebleed section anyway. Plus, it’s not like the band members cruise the auditorium. They’re safely tucked away in the back, where no fans can get to them.

“Hey, you ready?” Brandon’s voice pulls me out of my freakout for a second.

Turning to see him with two canned drinks in hand, I notice they’re both beers. I take one anyway. “Let me guess. They’re already out of soda.”

“Yeah. But you can have a beer. It won’t kill you.”

For all he knows, I’m a raging alcoholic.

But whatever. I can use a beer now that I know my ex is in the same space that I am.

Even if the chances of us meeting are close to zero, I can’t help the anxiety that races through me.

I pop the top and take a sip.

At least, Brandon had the decency to bring me an unopened drink. There is no way in hell I’d accept anything from him on a glass.

Too many horror stories and cautionary tales, thank you very much.

The night goes on without incident. Our seats are up so high that the only way I can see the people on stage is through the jumbotrons.

The band playing here today asked a few of the local bands to come showcase their talent before Shakedown warms up for them, so Apollo and his band won’t play until later.

I’m sure he’s backstage, getting lit up the way rockers normally do before performing.

Plus, there’s no way the band manager will allow them to hang out with the fans. Not when they’re not the main attraction tonight.

But I don’t want to press my luck. “Hey, I’m kind of tired. I’m gonna go ahead and head out, but please stay and enjoy the rest of the concert. This was fun, thanks.”

Without waiting, I take off, going down the steep stairs to leave.

Just as I reach the end of the hallway leading to the main area, a hand lands on my shoulder. “Hey, wait.”

Shit.

Turning, I find Brandon has followed me.

“I’m sorry for leaving you hanging, but I really have to go. I have an Uber coming right now. Thank you so much for the amazing chance to be here tonight with you, but I’m just not ready for this type of thing yet. I’m sorry.”

His hand slides from my shoulder down my arm, and he takes my hand. “You haven’t even given me a chance.”

“Please forgive me. It’s nothing to do with you. I’m just not ready.”

My heart starts hammering in my chest when he jerks me to him, wrapping his arms around me, one hand resting on my ass.

His mouth is dangerously close to my face, and I try to get loose from his arms.

“One kiss. If you hate it, then you can leave. But just one kiss, Lucy. You owe me that much.”

Oh god. What is going on right now?

“Please let me go. I don’t…” I wrestle to get myself free, push at his chest to get him as far away from me as I can, but he tightens his arms even more. “I. Don’t. Owe you. Anything. Let me go.” I utter the words as I shove him, praying his hold will falter and I can just run outside and away from this maniac.

“One kiss.” His grip on me tightens and my head is dangerously close to mimicking an owl or that girl in The Exorcist.

I punch his chest, but he doesn’t move an inch.

I don’t know if I’m more scared or mad that this guy is not letting me go.
