She laughs as she walks away, shaking her ass. She knows what she is doing. “I’ll do that.”

She stops in her tracks as Aurora’s voice says through the baby monitor, “Mommy? Daddy?”

I start to get out of bed, but she grabs her robe. “I’ll deal with her. I’m already up anyway.”

“Are you sure? I can go…”

“I’m sure, babe.” She smiles and leaves, closing the door behind her.

I can’t wipe the smile off my face as I close my eyes, replaying all the love we made during the night and this morning.

I don’t want to spend all day in bed, but I’m not quite ready to get up yet.

Five more minutes.

I pick up my phone out of habit and check out the news.

Swiping away, I find nothing interesting.

As I’m about to turn off my phone, my attention is caught on a name I know as well as my own.

The news title reads,

Is Shakedown on the verge of collapse?

What the fuck?

This must be click bait, but I press the link anyway.

Two lines in and I’m shaking my head. “No, no, no. They can’t go after her like this.”

The article is brutal and tears Lucy apart as she is called the next Yoko.

Aurora is also mentioned, though not by name, thank God. But this is unacceptable.

Nothing I’m reading except for Lucy’s name and the fact that we have a daughter is true!

They blame her for me not doing my best while on tour, for keeping me away from band practices. I haven’t missed a single practice, ever.

And it gets worse as it states that she’s coming not only between me and my bandmates, but between me and my own brother too.

I jump out of bed. This needs to be retracted. Now.

I have no idea how this came out, but I’m sure as hell hoping it was not the label.

That thought alone has my blood boiling.

They better not be fucking with my life.

After taking a quick shower, I pull on whatever clothes I grab.

Lucy and Aurora are in the living room, eating fresh fruit when I burst in.

“Whoa!” Lucy says with wide eyes. “Where are you off to?”

I don’t want her to know. I can’t let her know what they’re saying about her. “Band meeting. I missed a text that came in last night. I don’t want to miss it, and I’m already ten minutes late.” I kiss the top of her head. “Just hang out here. I’ll be back in an hour or so. Then we’ll go do something fun. I’m thinking the beach today. Or would you rather take a trip to Big Bear to see some snow?”

I kiss my daughter’s head too, and she slobbers my face with a kiss full of fruit juice.
