But this brings it all back to my mind. Will we ever really be out of the public eye?

Feeling a tug at the bottom of my shirt, I look down and see Aurora looking worried.

“Daddy, is everything okay?” Her little face has a frown.

I pick her up. “Of course, little birdie. Daddy just thought about something sad, that’s all.”

Holding my face in her little hands, she asks, “Can I kiss you to make it better?”

I kiss her forehead. “Your kiss is magical, honey. And I’d love to get one.”

As she kisses me, my eyes go to the TV, and I can’t seem to shake the worry off.

“You know what? Why don’t we call Mommy and ask her how long she’ll take, huh?”

“Okay, Daddy.”

Putting her down, I start to pull my phone out of my pocket when the door opens, and Lucy is there.

As her eyes lock on mine, she frowns. “What’s wrong?”

Aurora runs to her, and Lucy picks her up. “Daddy was sad because of the TV, but I kissed him better.”

“Oh, baby,” Lucy whispers as she looks at the TV, understanding lighting up her face. “You are such a good girl.”

Smiling, and with a light heart, I walk up to my girls and hug both hard. “I love you, girls.” After kissing Lucy, I add, “I’m so glad you're home.”

Lucy puts Aurora down and goes to put her purse down. I take the chance and give Aurora the box with the ring in it, holding my index finger in front of my mouth to keep my daughter silent.

She is practically vibrating.

Winking at her, I get down on one knee and wait for Lucy to turn to me.

Aurora comes to stand next to me, grinning like crazy. “Mommy, Daddy has a surprise for you.”

Lucy turns and her hands shake as she covers her mouth. “What’s going on?”

Aurora takes the lid off the box, then pulls the ring out, and hands it to me.

Tears sprout from Lucy’s eyes as she looks at the ring in my hand.

“Lucy Bennet, I have loved you for so long that I can’t recall a time that I didn’t love you. You’re my entire world. Well, you and this little lady right here.” I tickle my daughter.

Aurora giggles.

I turn back to Lucy. “We have started our family, bought a home where we can all live together, and I feel like there’s only one more thing for us to do. If you’ll have me. So, Lucy Bennet, will you marry me and make me the happiest man alive?”

“Say yes, Mommy!” Aurora shouts as she jumps up and down.

Lucy laughs, then holds out her hand, wiggling her fingers. “Yes. Yes, God, yes, I will marry you, Apollo Reynolds!”

Sliding the ring on her finger, I take it all in.

The love we all share. The life that we’re going to live together. Being part of a family.

My family.
