“Thank you.”

I looked back at him as I wiped the grease off my hands and saw his outstretched hand.

“Um…”

My eyes bounced from the stark contrast between my hand and his. Mine, which still had traces of grease smears on them, looked small and dirty next to his, which were large, smooth, and perfectly manicured. As I tentatively shook his hand, I almost gasped as it felt like a zap of electricity sparked through me. And as I pulled my hand away, I could still feel ghost-like tingles skating across my fingertips.

Needing to break through some of this tension, I returned to his car, marveling at its exquisite craftsmanship.

“I haven’t seen this color before. Did you get it customized?”

There was a beat of silence, and all I could hear was the rapid beating of my heart before he spoke.

“No.”

The grave timber of his voice, despite him speaking at a low volume, further piqued my interest.

“I saw it at an auction and knew I had to have it. Besides, with something as classic and beautiful as this, I’d never risk damaging it for simple aesthetic purposes.”

I knew he was talking about the car, but those words tapped right into my thoughts, and I couldn’t help the slight gasp that left my lips. Not allowing my mind to stray down that dark path of my past, I focused my attention back on the present and the man standing beside me. There was something enigmatic about him. His aloofness teetered on cold and insular, while his eyes had a magnetism that made it hard for you to look away.

“So, what brings you here? Besides the obvious car trouble?” I queried.

“What makes you think I’m not from here?”

His quick response felt like we were starting a game of sorts, yet I couldn’t put my finger on what.

“Hmm. Just the car?”

Laughter bubbled out of me at the cockiness of the guy, yet the rigidness in his posture and the fact he still held himself physically back made me want to continue this little charade.

“Yes, it is a thing of beauty. And you still haven’t answered my question.”

“I was visiting family and decided to take her for a drive instead of flying back.”

Lifting his hand to his mouth, I watched as he ran his thumb across his lower lip, and it was then that I noticed the walnut-brown leather driving glove he still wore on his left hand. He clenched his fist, causing the leather to creak, and the sound sent a shiver down my spine. Biting my lip to stop the moan from escaping, my mind wondered how that leather would feel brushing against my skin. Quickly glancing back up at him, I saw his pupils were blown wide, and his nostrils flared as though he could smell the arousal that was pouring out of me.

What on earth was going on?

We’d hardly said two words to one another, and my body’s reaction to a man whose name I didn’t even know was electric. I watched as his eyes roamed down my body, the feeling so intense that I could feel it as though it were his physical touch. Once his eyes finally returned to mine. Neither one of us wanted to break whatever spell we were under.

“Can I get your name?”

I was just about to answer when the sound of the office door opening interrupted me. I watched as Dad made his way over to the guy who was still watching me with a look that did nothing, for how turned on his body was making me feel.

“Good afternoon. Sorry to keep you waiting. What can I help you with?”

The stranger still looked at me for a second before turning to Dad. I watched a mask, the same cold he had before, slide back across his face.

I listened as Dad introduced himself and checked over the guy’s Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Gull-Wing. After looking at the engine for a minute, he said he believed the head gasket had gone.

I knew it.

Looking up at the stranger’s face, I saw him smirk in a way that sent blood straight to my clit.

Oh. My. God.

Serena, sort yourself out.
