I nearly screamed.

Grayson—no, Ink-Grayson was right behind me.

“Wh-where did you come from—?”

“I followed you in here. Didn’t you see me? Wow, you’resounaware of your surroundings. Always have been. It used to be cute.”

“Th-this is the women’sbathroom! You’re not allowed in here—”

“I don’t give a fuck,” he said. “I need to talk to you.”

“I don’twantto talk to you! I told you—I don’t want to see you anymore—”

“You haven’t heard me out.”

My eye went to the door.

“No one’s gonna come in here,” he said. “Not until we’redone.”

“You’re not real,” I said, willing myself to believe it.

Needing myself to believe it.

“Oh really?” Grayson purred. He raised his hand and ran his fingertips across my cheek. “Doesn’t this feel real?”

Electricity ran down my spine as chills shuddered through me. “N-no.”

It didn’t feel real. It wasn’t real.

It was unreal.

“Liar,”Grayson whispered in my ear, his hot breath sending my wispy hairs flying. “But, I’m not surprised. You’ve always been aliar.”

“I’m not a liar,” I said weakly, feebly.

Grayson looked down at me, his gray eyes hard and dark, almost black. “What ajoke. You lied to me about‘The Incident.’ You lied to me about what led up to it. And you lied to me about your mom…”

“Shut up.”

“What the fuck did you just say to me?”

“I said SHUT UP!” I cried, my voice echoing in the empty bathroom.

The voice that came out from my throat was heavier; huskier, more sure of itself than my regular voice.

I only had a millisecond to catch Grayson’show-dare-youexpression before the door flew open and a woman walked in.

When I looked back, he was gone.

The woman stopped in her tracks, her eyes tracing my arched back against the sink.

I quickly straightened my posture.

“Am I… am I interrupting something?” she asked.

“No,” I said with leftover confidence, smoothing out my dress. “I was just leaving.”

When I returned to the booth with Noah, I was pleased to see a glass of amber liquid and maraschino cherry waiting for me.
