Page 24 of The Summer of Wild

"Only if you win," he smirks.

Before I can respond with a snarky comment, we hear Wilder's name from across the hall.

We both turn at the same time a brunette saunters toward us.

"Well, well, well," she coos. "If it isn't the legend himself."

Standing before us is Olivia-Sophia. The girl who took Wilder's virginity and made Wild Cox a legend.

"Aren't you going to give me a hug?" Olivia-Sophia asks Wilder.

He shakes his head. "I... what are you doing here?"

"I'm home for the summer," the raven-haired beauty confesses. "I thought we could catch up."

As my eyes drift between Olivia-Sophia and Wilder, I cross my arms over my chest, confused. Wilder looks... scared. Maybe that's not the right word. Apprehensive? Yeah, apprehensive. Wilder looks like he's about to throw up.

Olivia-Sophia, on the other hand, is eyeing Wilder like a piece of meat. Which makes sense. She's the reason every girl in this place has either seen him naked or wants to see him naked. Except for me, of course. I don't want to see Wilder without clothes on.

In a twist I definitely don't see coming, Wilder slips his hand around my waist and tugs me close. As my body knocks into him, I stare up at the cool expression on his face. "Sorry, busy on a date."

Olivia-Sophia narrows her eyes. "Aren't you dating Cash Allred?"

"Was," Wilder answers for me. "They broke up. Turns out she's been madly in love with me for years."

"Is that so?" Olivia-Sophia exhales.

"Yep," Wilder quips.

Wait, am I really letting Wilder lie right now? He's tormented me for years. For years! This could be a chance to get him back for all the shit he's done to me.

"What a shame," Olivia-Sophia purses her lips.

"I'm sure Wilder is free this weekend," I run my fingers through his stupid hair, tugging hard when I reach the nape of his neck.

"What the fu—" Wilder starts, but I cut him off.

"And I'm not opposed to sharing," I wink at her. "There's enough of Wilder to go around. If you know what I mean."

"Oh," Olivia-Sophia's face lights up. "I like you. What's your name again?"

I release of Wilder's hair and offer her my hand. "Ingrid. Ingrid Winthrop."

"What are you guys doing Saturday?" Olivia-Sophia asks as Wilder digs his fingers into my hip.

"Country club!" Wilder interjects loudly. "We have a date at the country club."

"You should come," I say to Olivia-Sophia.

She shakes her head. "No, I don't want to intrude."

"Well," I shrug as I run my hand up Wilder's toned front, his breathing catching as I do, "if you change your mind, we'd love it if you joined us."

"I'll think about it," Olivia-Sophia smiles. "I'll let you get back to your date."

She disappears into the crowd as Wilder inhales sharply. I rest my hand on his chest, his face hard to read. I don't know what he's trying to hide, but he's doing a shitty job of it.

"You ready for round two?" I propose.
