I beam at him, my heart swelling. “Thank you.”

“I mean it. I’m not just saying this because of how I feel about you. You’re a good person, Maddie, and you take your new role seriously. I cannot believe I was once suspicious of your intentions. You’re the very opposite of someone hungry for fame.”

“It’s about time you noticed that,” I reply on a light laugh.

“Oh, I noticed.” He glances at his watch. “I hate to tell you, but we need to go.”

I glance around at the beauty of this place. “Bummer.”

Alex jumps off the log, offers me his hand, and we make our way back to the horses.

We ride back to the palace with not only a plan for our future, but a life-altering decision about mine. A decision I know is the right call, for me and for my family. And now that I’ve told Alex, I need to share the news with my grandparents—and the world.

It’s a brave, exciting, and wonderful world for Madeline Josephine Turner from Houston, TX, and I cannot wait for it to begin.

Chapter 25

Alexander

Hearts are breaking across the continent as photographs of our dashing prince and his newest conquest, none other than the newly minted Princess Madeline, emerge showing a couple quite possibly in love. Photos of the two dancing at the ball to mark the end of The Games show neither the Princess nor the Prince could keep their eyes from one another. Do we hear wedding bells in the not-too-distant future? This reader is holding her breath and hoping for the best.

Yours in the very deepest of shock,

Fabiana Fontaine xx

It’s an odd thing when it finally happens. One minute I’m simply going about my business, living my life the way I always have, and the next I find myself falling for someone so spectacularly perfect for me it feels as though I've been waiting for her my whole life.

Perhaps I have? Perhaps she's why I wasted so much of my time on frivolous things, on surface level relationships with women who ultimately didn't even come close to touching my heart?

I'll never know. What I do know is Maddie means everything to me, and now that I have her in my life, I never want to let her go.

“How short are we from our goal?” I ask Mia Moreno, the C.A.Y.A.C. finance manager, seated to my left in the conference room of our downtown Villadorata offices.

“Put it this way, sir, we're going to need you to weave some more of your royal magic at the next charity event to get people to dig deeper into their pockets,” she replies. She presses a button on her laptop and the large screen on the wall shows a graph of where our financials are currently, and where they need to be in order to raise the necessary funds to expand our research as we hope to do.

“As you can see, it's a big number,” Mia says.

“We have confidence we can achieve it, however,” adds the CEO, Lorenzo Amato, a man with an excellent reputation for getting things done, that we brought into the organization only 12 months prior, who so far, has proven his weight in gold.

“I'll do whatever you tell me,” I say.

Lorenzo smiles. “We hoped you’d say that because we’ve got a few ideas.”

We spend the next hour strategizing different fundraising ideas, and me agreeing to approach a number of people in my network. One of the things about being a prince is you get to meet a lot of interesting and talented people. Tapping a few on the shoulder to help in the name of charity is something I’m more than happy to do.

Once I say goodbye to Mia, Lorenzo, and their team, with a plan firmly in place, my phone lights up with a message from Maddie. Since I’ve been back in Ledonia, it’s the main way we talk during the day, and I look forward to seeing her beautiful face in the evening when we finally get the chance for a private video chat.

I read the message.

I met the Prime Minister today on my own. I rock!

I smile as I tap out my reply.

You totally rock. I’ve noticed that. What did you talk about?
