She did most of the talking, which is fine because I don't know a whole lot about Malveauxian politics. Or American politics, for that matter. But I’m learning.

That's because politics are completely dull.

You're going to make such a good king some day ??

Rude.

Tell me you've suddenly become interested in politics and I'll change my mind about you.

I thought you already had changed your mind about me, in the best way possible.

You know what? I've been thinking about it since you've been gone, and I think I was right about you in the first place.

I let out a laugh as I stand on the footpath by the car, and my driver, Craig, shoots me a quizzical look before he rearranges his features into appearing impassive.

“Just catching up on my messages,” I explain.

“Of course, sir. Back to the palace?” He opens the door and I slip inside.

“Actually, I need to make a stop on the way. Can you take me to Via Mazzi?”

“Of course.”

I get comfortable and tap out a reply.

How about we meet in that cupboard when I’m back next month? We could rewrite history together.

More kissing, less punching?

Desire grips my belly. What I wouldn’t do to have her here with me in the back of this car, her soft, plump lips ready and waiting to be claimed by mine.

Definitely more kissing. It’s my favorite thing to do with you.

I noticed that. It’s so weird to be here without you or my grandparents. I really miss you.

Not as much as I miss you.

See? That’s what I love about you the most: you’re not the least bit competitive.

I smile to myself at her use of that four-letter word. Although we’ve shared that we’re falling for one another, for me, I know I’m heading towards love as fast as a bullet train. No one has filled my mind the way she does, every night and every day. No one has made me feel like this, as though I could take on the world itself and win.

If that’s not love, I don’t know what is.

My phone pings with another message from Maddie.

It was actually so interesting meeting with the PM. The government is building affordable and sustainable housing, and I’ve agreed to open the project for Grandpapa in a couple months’ time.

You’ll be wielding a large pair of scissors?

The largest I can find ??

I like the way you’re passionate about things. It’s very sexy, Texas.

It’s hard not to be. Margarita is such an inspirational woman. Did you know she grew up in a government house with a single mom? She put herself through college and got a scholarship for a master’s program before she entered politics? Totally self-made.

She does sound inspirational. I’m glad you admire her.

Totally. I got all this handed to me on a platter whereas she had to work for what she has.
