Her chest rises quicker, and I watch in fascination as her pupils dilate. It’s the only warning I get before she pushes onto her toes and seals her mouth against mine. I slam my eyes closed and haul her into my body, relishing the way her body fits so perfectly against mine. I pivot us to put her back to the large cabinet, flattening us against the hard surface.

I know the moment she feels my cock against her stomach. She makes this noise, a half gasp half groan as her muscles tighten before she shifts her weight and lifts her leg around my waist. With her hands on the back of my neck, she pulls me harder against her, and now it’s my turn to groan into her mouth at the contact.

My cock grinds against her pussy, the feeling is addicting. Our tongues tangle together as our lips and hands and bodies communicate all the things we want to say to one another. She arches into me, her back bowing off the cabinet and rubbing against me.

I slide my hand up her thigh, the one that’s currently tugging me closer and closer. Her skin feels soft and smooth under my fingertips, and I can’t help but think about what else is soft and smooth, but I can’t wait to find out.

A throat clearing interrupts my exploration. Our lips part, and we stare at one another with wide eyes and chests heaving. There’s something poetic in the way we’re both panting for air in the same rhythm.

My gaze is glued to her face, so I don’t miss a single heartbeat of the slow smile she gives me. Just for me. “So, I guess you like the dress then. I’ll have to let Dante know you give your stamp of approval.”

A throat clears again. “Dante didn’t pick out that dress, I did.”

Madison peeks around my shoulder, but I need another moment with her safe in my arms. She taps my shoulder with a finger, and I take my time letting go of her. When she’s back on her feet, she pushes onto her tiptoes again and places a lingering kiss in the corner of my mouth.

She moves from her position against the cabinet, and once I’m sure I have my cock under control, I turn around. Rafe and Dante both flash me knowing smirks, but I shrug them off. I don’t give a fuck if they saw us. If this . . . thing . . . between us is going to work, we’re all going to have to get used to seeing her with each other.

“I love it, Aries. Thank you,” she says as she stares at him. “It’s beautiful.”

“It’s just a dress. You’re beautiful.” His response is quick. “Do you have the other thing I left?”

She nods as her cheeks pinken at the compliment. How can a compliment bring her embarrassment but she doesn’t bat an eyelash when Dante and Rafe walked in on us just now? Granted, we were only kissing, but—

My thoughts derail as I remember watching her with my brother. The way her eyes kept going to the glass, right around where I stood. Huh. It seems our girl likes a little voyeurism. I can work with that.

“Why are you smiling like that?”

It takes me a moment to realize Dante directed that question to me. Three pairs of eyes look at me expectantly, but I just lift a shoulder and smirk. “Nothing. Let’s go over the plan again.”

Maddie spins around so she can face all three of us. The overhead light from the kitchen catches on the fluttering material. I was wrong. It’s not a black dress. It's a deep midnight iridescent blue.

Like a raven.

“Aries and I go with Nate as he brings us through the front, like we're just guests of Carnival like anybody else. And even though the octagon won't be open yet, we'll head straight there and look for any signs of an ambush.” She recites a very basic version of our plans, and it makes me twitchy.

“Thirty minutes, Cherry. That's it. Then Dante and I are coming in.”

“We’ll meet at the octagon, I know.” She nods and holds my gaze, determination etched into her features.

“You're in a conversation with someone? You fucking walk away, you hear me? Rafe will be with you the whole time.” I don't even have to look at either of them to know that we’re on the same page. When it comes to tonight, we’re all on the same page.

“If we had time and more resources, I would have more equipment here.” Dante runs his hand through his hair. “We could have had our GPS watches and comms. We could have had fucking anything but what we have now, which is a handful of guns.”

“Hey, don’t write us off yet, Dante. Have a little faith. We’ll get Leo, then we’re gone.”

My best friend stares at the love of my life with fucking hearts in his eyes, and I can’t find it within myself to blame him. Hope shines from her like a goddamn beacon. She’s a lighthouse in this endless darkness we call home.

And I’ll do everything to protect that—protect her.
