“I have no idea.” I shove my hands into my pockets, hoping he doesn’t have bad news for us.

Sheila walks out of the room just as we get there. “I’m going to go hang out with Lola while you boys talk.” She walks away fast, and I can tell she’s a little upset about the impromptu meeting her husband called.

Going inside, I find Enzo sitting at a little desk and writing on the small notepad the hotel provides. “Sit. I have an idea that could change our lives.”

“So, nothing too important,” I joke as I take a seat on the end of the bed.

My brother turned to look at me with a very serious expression on his face. “I have a feeling that someone is going to stage an incident, and I would rather be the one who pulls it off than the one who is a victim of it.”

“So, strike first and strike hard,” Leo says.

I wonder why it’s only the three of us here. “Are the other guys coming?”

“No. I want this to stay strictly between us,” Enzo says. “And you’ll have to let your wife in on the plan. But no one else is to know a thing about what we’re going to do tomorrow.”

“The funeral is tomorrow,” Leo states.

Enzo smiles, an actual smile, a thing he rarely does. “I know. And everyone will be there. Everyone except us and the rest of the Vietti families.”

“We’re not going to the funeral?” I ask, liking this plan already. The more time we can spend away from the other bosses, the better.

“Well, you’ll go, Frank. You and Lisa. And you’ll go too, Leo. But your wife won’t,” Enzo lets us know.

I’m confused. “Maybe you should just lay it out for us in black and white, brother.”

“I had this idea a few days ago, but I wanted to get a feel for the others here before I went forward with it. I can tell that there are a lot of ideas floating around in that crowd of Mafia men. I’m going to strike first, and of course, the strike will be earth-shattering.”

He pulls something out of the desk drawer. A single red rose. “This isn’t what it looks like.”

“It looks like a flower,” Leo says with a chuckle.

Enzo nods. “You will add this to the floral arrangement that will go on top of the casket you brought with you, Frank. And Leo, you will take this.” He pulls out a small remote.

Leo’s mouth hangs open. “The flower is a bomb?”

“It is.” He places the two things carefully back in the drawer before going on. “Frank, I had your hearse brought in this afternoon. You’ll drive it up to the funeral home and wait in the car while Lisa takes the arrangement for the top of the casket, complete with the special rose, inside and places it on the casket. When the time is right, Leo will detonate the bomb.”

“And where will I be when the bomb goes off?” Leo asks with a shaky voice.

“You’ll have fifteen seconds to get out of there once you push the button,” Enzo lets him know. “And you can be as far away as thirty feet from the bomb when you push the button. I advise you to know where your exit will be so you’re not inside when the thing goes off.”

“No pressure,” Leo says and lets out a loud sigh.

“You got this, Leo. I’ve seen you do more difficult tasks than what I need you to do tomorrow.” Enzo seems to have it all planned out.

But he didn’t plan on me not agreeing with him about Lisa’s part in this dangerous plan of his. “I have one adjustment to make to your plan, brother. I’ll take the floral arrangement inside and place it on the casket. I see no reason for Lisa to be included in this at all. She’ll stay back here at the hotel.”

Shaking his head, he says, “You will do it exactly the way I have told you to. No changes are to be made.”

“I’m sorry, Enzo, but there’s no way I’m going to let you put my wife’s life in danger. And that’s what it sounds like to me. You haven’t talked about her exit at all.”

“That should go without saying, Frank. Don’t be stupid about this. I don’t want her dead. She’s to leave the building right after she delivers the bomb.”

“Then just let me do it.” I can’t let her do something this dangerous.

“We need her to do it. If anyone sees you do it, it can be traced back to us. No one knows Lisa well enough yet. And she can wear a disguise.” Getting up, he walks to the closet and pulls out a blonde wig and a shapeless black dress. “She’ll wear these. No one will know it’s her.”

“What about me?” Leo asks. Should I wear a disguise too, boss?”
